OT: Big XII most likely NOT expanding

Pete Thamel's campus rush blog about the Big XII expansion and Boren in particular.

Says his sources close to the Big XII expansion are continually frustrated with Boren and how he steps to the microphone and constantly talks about the expansion process when the instruction has been not to.

Also how he has thrown the whole perception of the conference out of whack by his complete 180 on expansion.

People in the conference have no idea what is going on because these schools, particularly OU and Texas can't make up their mind.

Berry Tramel article. Pretty much says that expansion is unlikely, OU doesn't like any of the candidates, up until July, Big XII still thought they could get FSU and Clemson even though it was a pipe dream, and this was most likely a bluff to get the networks to throw in more cash, one that seemed to backfire and make the Big XII look even more dysfunctional.

Pretty much thought from Day 1 they weren't going to expand and were just doing this to try get paid not to expand.

The clause in the contract that stated if they added ANY 2 teams, they would bump the rights fees up accordingly assumed FSU and Clemson were in play because at the time the BOTs at those schools were actively discussing the Big 12. However, ESPN/FOX could not name schools in the contract legally, I dont think. So when the Big 12 tried to pull a fast one and use the contract against ESPN/FOX to add 2 American Athletic schools, which bring little to no value to the contract for the sole purpose of paying those teams less to give the other 10 members more, I believe ESPN/FOX threatened them severely.

Everybody knows that no team out there adds value to the Big 12. This was an attempt to get paid. But ESPN and FOX said no.

The Big 12 is done. The question is "who lands OU and Texas" and what concessions will be made.

Texas is not going to the SEC. They would rather not play 2 time zones away in the Pac 12. They would probably have to take Texas Tech and would want to keep LHN. The Big Ten wont allow LHN. Should the ACC?

Coukd Swofford pull off the ultimate ninja move and land Texas and ND as full members?

I still don't think the Big XII is done either. I think Texas and OU like being the parents of their dysfunctional family.
