seemed like a good dude from his interviews. .. 52 years is way too young..
Yes, because those men didn't live a life of decadence. In my opinion, Hunger Strike is one of the top 10 best songs of the 90's.
who?Sad. Only 52. A bit shocking. We are getting old.
if only there some technology, some electronic network of information to obtain information from a database to be able to answer this or any other questions we have. if such a thing existed, you could use it to answer this question. until someone invents some sort of interconnected network where multiple computers can share info and data, I will just have to tell you that he is a musician.who?
Just funn'n ya...Music died in the early 90's in my opinion. I feel sorry for you kids having to grow up with the whole depressing Seattle based Grunge crap that pretty much ended rock and roll. Never really understood why they were so damn depressed, times were good. Must have based their stuff on Pitt football back then. One has to think that their excessively high rate (even for musicians in general) of suicide can, in part, be attributed to listening to their own product.if only there some technology, some electronic network of information to obtain information from a database to be able to answer this or any other questions we have. if such a thing existed, you could use it to answer this question. until someone invents some sort of interconnected network where multiple computers can share info and data, I will just have to tell you that he is a musician.
I think the 90's was a good era for music. not my cup of tea but you had the evolution or creation of a genre of music in gangster rap. grunge music, huge bands like DMB, Pearl Jam, to a lesser extent, smashing pumpins, nine inch nails, Rage against the machine, chilli peppers (technically they were around mid 80s under Clinton but they gained success in early 90's), STP, sublime, phish..Just funn'n ya...Music died in the early 90's in my opinion. what's a dmb? Huge bands? Ever check out the concert tour rankings from then or for that matter now? Sorry, music sucked. Not saying a decent song did not come along now and again but geez I went to see a couple old fart bands playing together (Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire) a couple months ago. Half the dudes were on oxygen and were playing stuff much better than those you listed above. I cannot even believe you listed gangster rap in reference to music. ....Son, you need some Motown or Al Green or Robert Cray or even Little Richard in your life...I think the 90's was a good era for music. not my cup of tea but you had the evolution or creation of a genre of music in gangster rap. grunge music, huge bands like DMB, Pearl Jam, to a lesser extent, smashing pumpins, nine inch nails, Rage against the machine.
lets not forget, the 90's revolutionized country music. it was dead and gone from mainstream America, that old country and western music was irrelevant til it morphed into more of a pop music hybrid thanks to musicians like Shania, garth brooks. etc..
I think the 90's was the last era of good music. now you see a lot of single artists and very little of actual bands or groups.
dmb is dave Matthews band. I need Motown in my life? LOL, no bro, I really don't. LIttle Richard? is this sarcasm??what's a dmb? Huge bands? btw... I was labeled a curmudgeon for the first time in my life last week. I now have a reputation to live up to.
Id say the 90's was the last decade that music lived....these musicians actually wrote their own stuff, and how they sounded is how they sounded. A member of my childhood neighborhood got involved in the industry in the 80's but gave up somewhere in the 2000's. The reason he gave up was that after working so long in recording, he saw too many poor singers make it big because the electronics in the studio adjusted everything so their voice sounded great.Just funn'n ya...Music died in the early 90's in my opinion. Motown is funny? Why is that? Take it easy big fella....Little Richard?dmb is dave Matthews band. I need Motown in my life? LOL, no bro, I really don't. LIttle Richard? is this sarcasm??
You went to an "Earth Wind and Fire" concert a couple months ago, that's hilarious. if I had to listen to boogie wonderland, I'd be pulling a "Chris Cornell" myself. although, I do love "Tracks of my tears" by smokey, that's a great song.
to each his own upj87, what is noise to one is music to another.
untrue in my case....I referenced music from before I was born. Hey, play sing sing sing from Benny Goodman...play some Sinatra...great stuff and stands the test of time....ask twenty people who Chris Cornell is and you might get five hits...Ask the same twenty about Bob Seger or Tom Petty or comparable Steve Perry and see how many hits you get. You like it great but it sure as hell does not have the popularity or impart the joy that music once did. What you guys have isn't new....
For 100's of years people believe the way did it was better, the music was better, this generation sucks:......blah.
Your kids will be saying it about their kids some day.
Fact is 90's will be remembered as a very strong decade for music. Much stronger then the two decades that preceded it as well as the decade that followed it.
Pearl Jam, red hot chili peppers, DMB, etc will all stand the test of time imo

please don't put bob segar in the same sentence of TOm Petty.. the silver bullet band sucks. no one has ever listened to "night moves" and walked away the better for it. point to me one person that is happy after enduring that song..untrue in my case....I referenced music from before I was born. sorry, George, not bill. they used to be like this funk band in mid 80s, George Clinton produced first album, I THINK.Wait, what? They were in Arkansas?

Thank God for the medical examiner.
Why is Vedder a d-bag? I know people do not like his political rants, but I heard he was good to his crew and stood up for his fans by fighting against Ticketmaster. So Cobain, Weiland, Staley, and Cornell all die young while a d-bag like Vedder is still around. Unbelievable.
Guns and roses and Metallica as well. What you guys have isn't new....

I've never been a big soundgarden fan, but he was a generational great singer.
I love his solo acoustic stuff.

But you are dismissing genre's with what you like. That doesnt make what another person likes as "garbage".
you are right upj87, none of this garbage has the "staying power" of earth, wind and fire and bob segar and the silver bullet band.sure it does... if I think it sucks, I think it sucks. That is an opinion and I have a wide berth of musical tastes. I dismiss Penn State in a similar fashion (their genre and all). If someone likes 12th century funeral dirges and I dismiss that as garbage that is my opinion. If you think the music post 80's grunge et all has the same impact and popularity and staying power as that of the 60', 70s and 80's feel free to say so but I say it is boring and depressing as hell. Just never got the angst of these guys...
there is an acoustic version of "nothing compares 2 u" by him. buddy sent it to me and im thinking that's quite a chick song but he did a good version of it if anyone is interested..

im not sure if he Is serious or messing with us when he drops these names..Yeah Pearl Jam now 25+ years later with pretty much the same original lineup save for drummer, selling out shows after shows is some flash in the pan. But Bob Seger is important! Chili Peppers are on 30 years or more. U2 has been together for almost 40 years. Yeah....no staying power for these guys. Earth Wind and Fire though.......that is the standard. Ahem![]()
LOL. Music tastes seem to polarize a group even more than politics, I've found. Everyone thinks the music of THEIR era, or the particular obscure band THEY like nobody ever heard of, is the end-all.Yeah I don't get this. Vedder by all accounts is about as normal and nice of a guy as anyone can be with that fame and position. He is one of my all time favorites, even though I don't always agree politically. But why is it now in this country that disagreeing with politics means you just cannot like or accept people. I mean James Carville and Mary Matalin are married for chrissakes.
I wish we could disagree without the vitriol and acting like someone supporting the other side (whoever) is a character flaw.
