A Star is Born. This kid has that "it" factor. Seen it with Sid. Seen it with Fitz. Seen it with Cutch. He has it. Big personality. And big talent. Delivered today.

The Pirates could really use a guy like Cole. Could be a fun summer.

The pirates will rush back broken clavicle Gonzalez in hope of maintaining an extra year of control from tucker.

In fairness, he also will likely be much better in 6 years than he is today. So it’s not just about the control. It’s good business, especially if he isn’t significantly better than the next current option.

That said....he definitely has that “it” factor. But he is 22 without a long pedigree of tearing up the minors. So time will tell as far as what type of player he will be this year.

Whoa slow down buckaroo. That was fun. The kid has enthusiasm and charisma. He seems like someone we can all root for. He’s no Ben.

But that’s some serious company you’re putting him in after just three plate appearances.

Check out the stats of the two players the pirates traded to Tampa Bay last year. Hitting for average and smashing home runs. Lowest era in the American League.

Hey Cochise...the Pirates are tied for the best record in the majors...and that is after a weak bullpen blew big leads in a few games.

Take a look at Glasnow stats in Pittsburgh, and you'll see why they got rid of him.

Glasnow was on the cusp of being a huge bust. Now he goes to Tampa where they have an awkward pitching set up (the whole "opener" deal) that suits him.

Meadows was traded due to organizational depth. There are tons of outfielders in the system, including the OTHER top 10 prospect that was called up yesterday that no one has mentioned in this thread, Reynolds.

Lets actually take a look at the context of the trade before mindlessly bashing it.

As soon as Gonzales went down and stayed down I said "it's Cole Tucker time". Been watching the kid since he was drafted.

Despite the sniveling Pirate haters around this board, I think the Buccos will be fun to watch.

Oh no doubt the arrival of Tucker doesn't take away from the fact this franchise cheats its fans. Every move (lol aside from the aforementioned Archer trade) is done with a budget in mind.

That the Pirates have the best record in the game currently also shows how bad the league has become.

not really. its direct reflection of their Starting pitching. Pitching that is doing very well, and was expected to do well. Which is why there is legit hope at some sort of contention this year. the pitching isn't completely pitching above its weight right now. Some numbers will drop a bit, but ultimately it shouldnt be a huge drop.

Yea but....If he does stay he might become the Ben of baseball in all aspects!!!

What’s up with the Cochise thing. It’s Easter. Be nice.

The pirates had a great record last year heading into June. Then they imploded. It’s a long season so there is plenty of time for the executive team and coaching staff to screw things up

Very good rotation with a dominant closer. That’s a nice formula, it will win you some games.

In the meantime there are 4 major players who have been out from spring training who will be back soon, not counting Marte who is on the 10 day DL. The team is tied for the best record in baseball yet the general media vibe is to continue to bash them and hope they fail.

Yes, the management could spend more. But to what end. Throwing money after problems doesn't work that often. They screwed up after the 2015 season when they needed to add a couple of pieces but didn't. That's a fact. People need to back the team and hope they do well or just STFU and go watch soccer or something. Addressing problems is fine. Finding things to constantly bash the Pirates for is not.

Windber, I think many people (myself included) directs or the source of the anger is not just the typical "Nutting is cheap" crap, but the arrogance and insulting of the fans intelligence when Neal or Coonelly come up with their BS comments and answers to any questions regarding their moves and roster makeup.

Definitely a big part of it. They have the balls to piss on the fans and then tell them it’s raining.

Oh come on. There’s a difference between throwing money at a problem and building a team that can win a championship. When the payroll is as low as it is, it’s fair game. Huntington derserves credit though for putting together a competitive squad on a shoestring budget.

Maybe they will stumble into Tucker being the everyday shortstop, but it’s unacceptable to me that they went into the season with Gonzalez, when their payroll is as low as it is.

They need their set up guys to live up to their abilities. The starting pitching will not be this good all year. Can you believe this team could be 15-3 right now??

Yeah, they blew two great outings for taillon and at least for archer.

Marte out will hurt. I still don’t know where you put polanco when he’s back.

Easy. You have the luxury to ease him back into form because you have Melky. But once June rolls around, and assuming Dickerson and Polonco are healthy, Melky goes back to being your 4th outfielder. He will get still get plenty of starts at the corner spots.

I think those guys will regress somewhat - but they certainly look like they will at least be good MLB players for a long time. So unless they win a World Series with Archer as a key piece, it’s not looking like a good trade.

(Meadows is also now on the “not DL” so let’s not crown him quite yet)

But let’s not forget they have won several of those types of scenarios too. Vasquez is as good as anyone in the league, and they gave up very little for him. Dickerson was basically for free. Lots of people didn’t want Melky and he looks like he has plenty left in the tank.

They act like Searage is the pitching "whisperer" yet pitchers get traded from the Bucs because they don't pitch well here then they look like all stars on their new teams.

Morton is fantastic. I was upset when we let him go.

Cole Tucker is a great add one of the Pirates missing pieces.
And:
Talk about missing pieces the Pirates now have the speed they need on the base path.
Mach Kang Speed
I'm slowly, slowing, slowing, oh no. Kang drop anchor soon hope base is close?

Which ones are those? Glasnow is the only example, and he is a glorified relief pitcher who starts for the Ray's because of the way they use their staff.

The others who go on to do well all did well here.

The Pirates are what, 12-8? That's great. 20 games. That's a 97 win pace. However, it is also 12% of the season, meaning if this is the NFL, it is the equivalent of leading their division after 2 games. Baseball is the ultimate long haul.

Well I’m a fan so not exactly objective but I’m excited. Polanco back, bell hitting hell out of the ball. Two lefties who are perfect for pnc park. Tucker looks like a real deal, I like Lang although dude swings at everything. Moran ain’t bad, Frazier is a good avg hitter.

Oh yeah, we have a top 3 rotation in league and the best closer in baseball. Bullpen is a nightmare though.

He is why marte is hurt. Pirate players should Code Red him

Untrue. They are both at fault. Neither one called for the ball on that play. That was clearly shown on replay. An identical situation happened about a week before, and ended up a near miss. It was only a matter of time, but F Gonzalez.

Also untrue. They had a bad June but finished with a WINNING RECORD. Peoiple around here act like the Bucs lost 90 games.
