OT:Russia!

I think it's weird that people think baseball is "exciting", I just think it's one of those "emperor has no clothes" things, people are afraid to come out of the closet and admit baseball is boring crap because they're afraid they'll be called un-American.

I really don't think people even know why they watch it anymore. The Pirates are always a great example. People keep on showing up for the "experience". I still have no idea what that means.

As much as I hate the sport, I still go sometimes, it's just a social thing, just go and hang out with friends and drink beer, just socialize, don't even really watch the game, that's why I always want to sit far away, because since I'm basically just hanging out drinking and socializing, I'm not paying attention 90% of the time, because it's so dull, and I don't want to get hit by a ball going into the stands.

When I have gone the last few years, I've come to see how the batters take as many pitches as possible playing the percentages, trying to draw walks, and so many at bats are walks or Ks, enhancing the extreme boredom, they never do the old school stuff, like hit and run, steal bases, too risky these days with the "Moneyball" approach that's ruined the sport, the ball is rarely in play, the sport was never really that exciting to begin with. I probably go 1-2 times per season to Camden Yards. Often just get bored and leave around the 7th or 8th inning to beat the traffic.

Then you are a better "fan" than me.

I think you hit on something and it does make sense. A lot of the reason there are so many walks and guys wait on pitches is because the fields have gotten smaller and the ball seems to jump like a rabbit. The post about a couple of guys pitching 13 innings or something is a good example. "Back in the day", pitchers weren't afraid to put the ball in play. Now, a pitcher can saw a guy off and still give up a homerun. It's just not safe to let the fielders play the game behind you anymore.
