Steelers / Browns

Listen -
We came back in the 4th quarter .
Took a lead.
And Loss because Winston made winning plays .
Winston handed the game to the Stillers on a silver platter with those 2 turnovers in the 4th. Stillers lost because they F’d around and went 3 and out on the game’s critical offensive possession, when a mere first down would have sealed the win. Just a god awful piece of play calling right there. That was the game.

It never should have come down to that. F’ Around and Find Out. The Browns even tried handing them the game at the end and all they had to do was pick up a 1st down. Brilliant idea to have Fields throw a long ball to Pickens. Stupidity on so many levels throughout the game.
That 3rd down play was horrid, but Don’t give Art a pass for his first and second down plays in that series either. Just trash.

Wrong time and place to be aggressive.

If that punt goes 40 yards, good chance this lot eeks out the win.

Yeah, that's just not a high % throw in these conditions. Even if it's right on the money the catch is no gimme. Look at some of the passes Cleveland was dropping.

Letting Fields lob one up to Pickens in 1 on 1 coverage isn't really being aggressive, because there's a very low chance it's getting completed or picked. Aggressive would have been putting Wilson in and not trying to get cute with Inspector Gadget. Go right at them.

Likewise they had 3 points in the first half which was as relevant .

This is like blaming a missed FT at the end in hoops instead of every other missed shot .

I think we lost because we gave Winston the opportunity to make those winning plays. The 3 and out after the INT was extremely disappointing, Field’s in the game instead of Wilson a big head scratcher and the low probability long pass down the sideline on 3rd and 3-4 yards plain ole stupid.

Winston sure didn’t have any problem completing short out patterns to move the chains once we gave the ball back to them. Wilson should have been in the game doing the same damn thing so that Winston would have never got the ball back.

I wouldn't be surprised if that arrogant idiot told him to run Najee twice and see where we are. In fact, I don't doubt that the idiot himself signed off on the 3rd down throw to Pickens.

I would take the Pitt WR corp that drops passes every other play now over the Steelers WR corp. No lie.
And people saying Russ will make 30 mil next season are high too.
This medium is funny sometimes. Its like the kids never have lived before???

No it isn’t. Steelers were given a gift. The offense had the outcome of the game in its hands. Execute and get a first down, and it’s over. Or run the ball twice into a stacked front for minimal gain, then put the game in the hands of your #2 QB and try to get cute, and lose.

When it comes down to it. Tomlin takes the lead for why this game was lost. He is in charge. He makes decisions. He made some terrible terrible terrible decisions tonight. He is downright mediocre and that is not going to change. He knows he has job security no matter how mediocre he continues to be.
I’ll blame him for the loss- he’s the HC
But he’s not mediocre

Who are the elite HC in the nfl right now ?

It continues to boggle my mind how these coaches piss timeouts away. The value of having all three at the end of the game can be the difference in the other team downing the ball and burning the clock or your team getting another possession with 1:50 left. I'd always strive to have three, though I get sometimes you can't help it.

... but these peckers on the South Side are so overly-sensitive about one side of the ball that they'll call one on 3rd and 17 coming off a stoppage of play if something doesn't look exactly right to them.

Oh you don’t think the team with the most points wins?
You think 19 points per game wins a lot of games in the NFL ?!?

It's the nature of the NFL. You have to put the game on ice with your offense when you only need one 1st down to accomplish it. They did it last week against Baltimore but got really stupid tonight. How many times do you see the team that has to punt because they can't get the 1st down lose? It has to be like 75% of the time.

Tomlin does make his money from fake Steelers fans that live in other cities that worship him . In this city he is barely liked.

Boy did Porter suck tonight. He just played off coverage and let his man catch the ball unimpeded. He had much to do with Winston's success tonight.
I'll be honest, I don't see all the hype about him. He is a nice player but boy people are oogling over him and I just don't get it.

Totally agree.
3 points in a half was the problem
3 pts in a half was definitely a problem and we can go off on a number of reasons why that was. Most of them start and end with the OC. We get stuffed on 3rd or 4th and short way way too often, they usually end up as negative plays because of the obligatory delayed handoff call. Your OC has to be more in tune with the capabilities of his OL during the course of the game.

But those failures are all irrelevant water under the bridge when you have the opportunity to put the game away when you get the ball back in the lead with 3-4 minutes to go. Lost the game when we didn’t take care of business there.

Correct
Listen - defense failed , no doubt
But offense lost the game throughout .

And usually in Patrick's case...that 3rd and 17 is an easy conversion for 1st down. It really is maddening.

Yep
Could have been another signature gritty win
Instead it was a bad team loss

He is mediocre right now and has been for the past 5+ years. You are more than likely the only person on this board who thinks otherwise and this is fine, it's your opinion.
So who are the elite HC?
Mediocre means median or average of 32 coaches ?
Who are top 3 coaches right now ?
You honestly think 25% of the coaches are superior to Tomlin ?!?

Correct

I wasn't at all happy with the offense today. That said, you cannot allow Jamies Winston and the Browns to score 24 points. So I think the blame should be shared by all 3 units as the punt was also a dagger. However, the ultimate blame goes on offense because they failed to accept the browns gift, by not putting it away.

I don't care about the other head coaches. By definition, he is mediocre. I don't need to list the 3 top head coaches because I don't care. I know 1 thing, Mike Tomlin is a mediocre head coach.

Agree

Without a doubt all 3 units share in the loss for the reasons you stated.

Also agree with the ultimate blame going to the offense for going 3 n out after the Winston gift. Only clarification, when you say offense, blame goes not to the players but the offensive coaches for how they handled that 3 n out possession.

Yet both Cowher and Tomlin are 1-1 in superbowls
Cowher was more consistent, played in multiple AFC title games, and was a better time manager. Tomlin has had the Steelers marginally relevant over the past 7 years. Cowher's teams were contenders, Tomlin's teams are pretenders. To me the comparison begins and ends with their superbowl records. Cowher was a much better coach.
