OT: Who will be the NFL MVP in 2019?

No, it’s definitely not going to be a running back. A running back has been named MVP just one time since 2006 and he ran for 2000 yards to do it. Barkley is a great player, but he plays the wrong position at the wrong time in the game’s evolution.

It also won’t be Donald — no matter how great he plays. He pretty clearly IS the very best football player on planet Earth. I think most serious football fans/media/executives are in near universal agreement on that front. However, for the purposes of that particular award, he too is simply in the wrong spot.

It will definitely be a quarterback. My guess is Mahomes again. However, I wouldn’t be shocked if it was someone like Rodgers, Watson or even Mayfield.

I think the Colts are primed for a big year so I will go with Andrew Luck. He clearly showed that he’s back last year.

Roethlisberger as a dark horse, Mahomes would be the guy I’d actually put money on.

So a year older and without the best receiver on the planet and Ben's going to win his first MVP? Ben threw for career numbers last season and didn't even sniff offensive player of the year, let alone NFL MVP. He also doesn't appear to be letting up on the 1+INT/game average he's been on over the last 50 games. He's not a dark horse, he's a vantablack horse.

He’s still got a good receiver in JuJu and I think the INTs will go down with him not trying to force the ball to Brown so much, although the downside is production may go down too.

I just think Ben has something to prove this year. The biggest question is can JuJu be anywhere near as productive as he’s been so far without the receiver opposite him drawing double coverage.

Certainly he’s not someone I’d feel comfortable putting money on, especially with his gunslinger mentality. But if he can cut down on the INTS and still put up the yards, I think he’s more likely to get votes now than when he was playing with an elite receiver and elite running back.

Ben couldn't even win Super Bowl MVP when he led his team on a game-winning drive and threw the best pass in Super Bowl history. Not happening.

Mahomes was fun to watch. But expect other teams to devise special defenses for him this year. And he frankly lived on borrowed time with a lot of his Palko-like improvised plays. Those can go very badly.
