Do you live in the city ?They are the politics of the city- everything I have heard in this post is some flame or excuse
that’s enough for a parking lotWith the entire field house leveld
Tear down the VA Hospital. Even better yet, tear down Carnegie Mellon.Take a knee Sparky .
The answer very simple - destroy the cathedral of learning , Heinz chapel, Stephen foster , the carnegie museums - and build the stadium . Of course we also need to destroy Schenley plaza so we can have parking there and where the museum once was .
So we can ultimately make less revenue for the same attendance .
I mean - priorities !
Even if you ignore Victory Heights, there is now a large basketball arena and two dorm buildings in the footprint where the football stadium used to be.enough acreage —let’s do the math…,,there used to be a hundred yard football stadium there ….with a track around it
enough acreage —let’s do the math…,,there used to be a hundred yard football stadium there ….with a track around it
They can’t because it’s not remotely realistic even politically in this city .
Pitt gave up land? You mean in the 1930s when the university gave land to Presby and Children's to create a medical center on campus or the 1950s when it gave land to the VA?They've made it a self fulfilling prophecy. Giving up the land they had like complete morons, and then not trying to secure space when it was certainly cheaper = intention. They simply don't want to have a successful football program. This is a school that didn't have any Pitt alums on the Chancellor's leadership team for years, while several alums from PSU served on that team.
It's almost as if the incompetence were intentional.
It certainly isn't. LOL. It is pure comedy. Is this thread for real?

That damn AD Heather Lyke.....Lock Her Up !!!!!!!!
If she shows up on a campus again as an AD it will be at Slippery RockThat damn AD Heather Lyke.....Lock Her Up !!!!!!!!
i always thought that the VA being there is the worst spot on the planet (OK, in western PA) for a hospital. Talk about a terrible place to get in and out of..Tear down the VA Hospital. Even better yet, tear down Carnegie Mellon.
With our location for pitt stadiumIf she shows up on a campus again as an AD it will be at Slippery Rock
It’s really easy to get in and out of .i always thought that the VA being there is the worst spot on the planet (OK, in western PA) for a hospital. Talk about a terrible place to get in and out of..
So much space all around the city, in the surrounding suburbs, to build a beautiful, convenient, state of the art hospital for our hero veterans and we put it on a mountain in oakland, surrounded by 3 (or is it 4, or is it 5) colleges, a 100 chain hotels and 3 (or it is 4 or is it 5) other hospitals..
Whoever made that decision didnt think that one out..
The decision was probably was made by the Fitzgerald administration, the guy that brought athletic scholarships back and essentially saved Pitt athletics from Code Bowman.i always thought that the VA being there is the worst spot on the planet (OK, in western PA) for a hospital. Yall should go away. Dumb.Yall should apply to work for Heather
i've said it a few times but i'd like to work under Heather,Yall should apply to work for Heather
Another history lesson from @CrazyPaco.....always appreciated...The decision was probably was made by the Fitzgerald administration, the guy that brought athletic scholarships back and essentially saved Pitt athletics from Code Bowman.
The entire purpose was to build on the university's medical center, which has proven to be, to put it mildly, a success. It was built around the time as the then new medical school, Scaife Hall, and then new nursing residence, Lothrop Hall. You had Presby, Children's, Montifore, Municipal, Ear & Eye, Falk Clinic, the Medical Arts building, and Western Psych, and the VA all right in the same location as the med and nursing schools, along with the soon to be built school of public health.
And there continues to be Pitt med faculty that work in the VA.
Wait, you’re telling me @HailtoPitt bought into false information! Inconceivable!Pitt gave up land? You mean in the 1930s when the university gave land to Presby and Children's to create a medical center on campus or the 1950s when it gave land to the VA?
Oh, and that PSU alumni urban legend is just that...completely false; debunked multiple times. Ignorance endures, however.
Not to mention the VA is a major teaching hospital for med students, residents and fellows from Pitt Med. And pretty easy access for the Pitt faculty attendings to get to from their offices and labs. The decision was probably was made by the Fitzgerald administration, the guy that brought athletic scholarships back and essentially saved Pitt athletics from Code Bowman.

Pitt fans: Haha, that fan base is full of idiot fans who put football ahead of important things. Not to mention the VA is a major teaching hospital for med students, residents and fellows from Pitt Med. And pretty easy access for the Pitt faculty attendings to get to from their offices and labs.

Milliones has been mentioned to close at times, but I don't think it is currently planned or seriously discussed for any closure. That could be your hypothetical stadium site. But good luck waiting on that. The VA, in terms of its footprint, seems massive, like 3 times the size of Presby. I always thought those two streets of homes behind the VA (Brackenridge and Avalon maybe?) felt out of place.
I know the Pittsburgh Public Schools have been considering a massive consolidation plan -- any chance the Milliones/University Prep building, grounds, and ballfield could be up for sale to Pitt?
That thread does not define land given upNope. It was true. Here is the thread discussing it. Appears that you are the ignorant one. Again.
Pitt’s Chancellor’s Leadership Team

Plus we have luxury box and club revenue .i've finally reached the age in my life where i think heinz stadium isnt that bad of a stadium. something happens when you reach the backhalf of your 40s, things like convenience and accessibility come into play..
never thought i'd say it but im fine with keeping heinz as our home venue. some places outside to grab a beer or a bit to eat, still some surface tailgating left (although those days will soon be in the past) and you can get home east/west/north/south in about 30 minutes..
I say screw the on campus stadium and keep the acc, or whatever we call it now.
And you were called out as the flaming, giant moron that you are in that thread. My lord you haven't a clue how things are run at universities.Nope. It was true. Here is the thread discussing it. Appears that you are the ignorant one. Again.

Ramicone served Pitt for 30 years, starting under Wesley Posvar, helped oversee one of the greatest financial turnarounds in the university's history...helped grow the university's net assets by $2 billion in 7 years as CFO.

I’ve hoped that Pitt could get its hands on the SciTech site for decades now. It’s such a bigger footprint that in seems from street level - it’s the size of the entire Schenley Quad, and you could probably fit 1000+ student beds in that footprint without any real creativity at all.Milliones has been mentioned to close at times, but I don't think it is currently planned or seriously discussed for any closure. That could be your hypothetical stadium site. But good luck waiting on that.
The school board building on Bigelow, Sci & Tech Academy building in front of Benedum, and Milliones would all be great for Pitt to get a hold of.
