Pitt’s new on campus football stadium

Pitt fans are there for the game. They are there for football. Steeler fans are there to get wasted. The game is just a nice extra beneft to getting drunk out of your mind. Totally different culture.
and yet pitt fans are late to the games and leave early.

but you said it, pitt games are a game, a 3 hour game and that's it, no pre or post game events. a steelers home game is an event and is treated as so.. that's why pitt fans should love heinz field, you leave early and can be home in 25 minutes..

Like you said, different cultures for sure..

But it’s the same lots.
They both open 5 hours before kickoff .
The quantity of pitt tailgating fans is just much lower

Some Pitt fans that I know who are big into tailgating for Pitt are more into the tailgate than the game -- and sometimes don't even bother to come into the stadium. Or if they do, the 1st quarter is already over.
Tailgating is the only reason my 12 year old is interested into the games

Yep. It’s been scaled down for sure but still PLENTY of people tailgating. It’s amazing how much wildly incorrect info continues to spew from his irrationally confident mind.
yeah, def pitt tailgaters for sure. just weird that the better the lots are (closer to the stadium), the fewer tailgaters there are. The green lots and lots over by pnc will be filled but Gold 1a and Gold 2 will be 60% empty. i know the leases are prioritized, apparently the older, wealthier pitt fans that have these spots just dont like to tailgate.

The Gold lots suck because they force cars into parking spots. It's why my group moved out.

Golds seem to be full by the time I go into games, but then, I'm not paying that close of attention.

Pitt has virtually no tailgate scene as it is. There are many reasons NOT to build an on-campus stadium. But tailgating on the North Shore isnt one.
That wasn't bad when Heinz was opened. Then the Rooneys went to town. They scoop it up for millions. Let's throw them out of town.

We are in 1a. That section along the fence gets filled, but everything mid gold garage and out stays pretty empty until about 30 minutes before the game. Seems to fill up around then.

Well, that's usually when I'm walking in, so it always seems full to me.

Yes, it is a coincidence, because it was the shape of the plot on the Robinson Court public housing was located and that didn't change. Pitt was unable to acquire adjacent property it wanted. It was a 10 year political fight to get what they did. Cramming three fields on that plot was not easy. Not sure Pitt is in the ACC without it though.

Ok. Regardless, if they ever have the want or will to do it, that's where it's going. With or without some reconfiguration of Trees, Cost, OC, etc..

Makes no difference to me, I'll attend either way. While Heinz lacks atmosphere and nostalgia, it's cheap and convenient. Probably how the administration looks at it too. We'll have 45k tomorrow night, and the barren upper deck and bright yellow seats will make the place look empty. It is what it is.

They do that in red lots too, unless you got that special lot .

that's fantastic..
He doesn’t give a crap about the game . He likes eating and socializing with my friends kids .
He does like the band and eating at the stadium .
There’s we quarters we just hang in the club inside .
Sometimes leaving after the 3rd to let the dog out .
Upside of living 6 miles away

so wait, now we have pitt fans hoping the baseball and softball programs are shut down?

lord almighty, with fans like ours, who needs a rival

I want us to focus on sports we can be good at. There's no chance with baseball/softball. Turn baseball into a lacrosse/field hockey stadium. Maybe replace them with men's lacrosse and field hockey. Baseball has sucked forever. Haven't made the NCAA Tournament since 1994. That's absurd. Shut it down and try something else or use the money to pay for Lyke Arena.

Calling Dr. Kevorkian......please euthanize this thread......thank you...

There’s a pool inside too.
But you aren’t going to move one of the most successful PPS magnet schools
It's got a pool? Pitt students need one of those to swim off a hangover Saturday mornings before a Pitt football game..... or at least I did.

what a blessing it was for that section 8 / public housing garbage to go away for pitt to expand. always thought how truly pathetic it was for that to be so close to pitt's athletic facilities.
When I was a freshman in the Towers one of the guys on the floor got hammered and walked up the hill to meet someone up at Sutherland and passed out on an outdoor couch on Aliquippa terrace or whatever that project was called. A city policeman saw him all contorted wierdly on a couch and dragged his ass out of there. Thought he was a dead guy. Lucky kid didn't get an underage or anything.

It is hard to believe D1 athletes parked their cars up there on Robinson between the project and the cost center to practice. I had a beater piece of junk so I didn't much care about parking it on that street just to use the gym, but holly hell. The entire street was always covered by broken auto glass.

Yup, Pitt people who actually tailgate know where the action is, and it's not the gold lots!

I have a Gold1B pass and tailgate -
Although the rest of the group is in red 7a , so I’ll cross the street to hang with them.

But the Gold is nice for school night games, when I’ll just drink a couple beers and go to the game instead of a full tailgate .

Often the frats buy gold passes to throw huge tailgates in fairness .

Yet the tailgating scene is about 1000% better than it ever was at Pitt Stadium.
THIS!

Why would anyone want to go backwards? The tailgating is way better. The traffic situation is way better. The parking situation is better. The atmosphere is better.

Acrisure Stadium is only 3 miles from campus. NCST is also 3 miles from Carter-Finley Stadium, and their fans NEVER talk about an on campus stadium.

Besides, there is no place to put it and we need money to pay players and coaches…Money is the bottom line…

Last point. There are Pitt fans that insist that Pitt can reach new heights if they had an on campus stadium… Name one school whose program was elevated by moving to an on campus stadium? Minnesota? Houston?

All good points. I think most actually want an appropriately sized stadium rather than an on-campus stadium. It’s about filling the seats more than anything else because a stadium in Oakland wouldn’t offer what we have now.
