Pitt hosts Duquesne in the season opener, Aug. 30.

The Pirates are away, but a bigger draw will clog the North Shore parking lots.

The barnstorming Savannah Bananas play at PNC Park the same day. The Bananas are entertainers like the Harlem Globetrotters. Apparently their two game set here is sold out.

I was hoping for a 6pm kickoff, a Pitt win followed by fireworks. Now I am not so sure about a night game.

Anybody have inside info on this?

Wow! The Savannah Bananas play the Texas Tailgaters at 7PM. So, noon it is for Pitt/Duquesne. It is absolutely freaking hilarious that now the Savannah Bananas are scheduling our game times. Soon the Harlem Globetrotters will be scheduling our basketball team game times.

I don’t get the phenomenon. It’s baseball. No matter what you do you can’t make it entertaining.

They make it entertaining. I'd take the fam if tickets were reasonably priced. Think Globetrotters. That's what it is. Should be a great day on the Pennsylvania River 😉

Only barnstormers I’d pay to see would have been the Josh Gibson’s and negro league players of 85 years ago. And then I would have loved to have a couple drinks and listen to some jazz at the Crawford Grille. I’m a sucker for nostalgic stuff like that. I’d have loved to see what the Hill District was like in the 40’s.

Pitt should contractually control the parking lots for this date. So play at whatever time you want for Pitt. Play at 7 pm. Anyone expecting to park for the PNC circus has to get passes through Pitt.

I remember as a kid seeing the king and his court softball team. Their gimmick was beating teams by playing with only 4 players. No one could hit their pitcher

I live in Hilton Head. Savannah Banana’s are sold out. Hard ticket to get. Will be the best thing PNC park has seen in many a year.
Georgia-South Carolina Communities love them.

His team was called the King and his Court.
His pitching forearm was big as a 4x4. Pitched from second base or blind folded. The guy was unhittable. The team consisted of Eddie, catcher, 1st baseman, shortstop and an outfielder.

Anyone remember the Colorado Silver Bullets women's baseball team from the 90s? They used to go around and play, like adult rec league teams but damn I used to watch those games on Prime Sports Network. We only had that, ESPN, and maybe ESPN2 so there weren't many options, which is why I think I was a tennis fan back then. Used to watch the hell out of the French Open and Wimbledon.

Yea. The pitcher was a lefty who threw in the 80s I believe. Which was pretty dam good for a woman.

This is completely disgusting. You can't pretend to be a legit program when a joke of a baseball team gets first dibs on game time.

And also the Savannah Bananas.

I believe Phil Niekro was their manager!

The Bananas will be the best entertainment at PNC Park all season. They usually bring in local legends as special guests so be on the lookout for who? Freddy Sanchez… Russell Martin… Andy Van Slyke?

two scrimmages on the same day, pitt vs duquesne and the bananas. in all honesty, im thinking the bananas will be more entertaining..

Were they hot? Sounds like that treaded dangerously over misogynistic waters.

Fun fact…FK once stuck out 4 times in one game vs Duquesne. Of course I was working back from injury…that's my excuse anyway.

It will be close, but that Duquesne bump (about 150 extra people) should put Pitt slightly ahead if it's a nice day.

I honestly think there's 3000 Duquesne fans, including their students. I get that Duquesne doesn't have any football fans at all but I think there's 3000 alums/students who decide to go down to the stadium for a nice day out and maybe attend the alumni event, which I'm sure they will have.

There will probably be some people with Pitt season tickets who wear Duquesne gear that day. This town is weird like that (although that's not too bad, since I feel like you could have just grown up in Pittsburgh rooting for Pitt then went to Duquesne but still wanted to have an FBS team). But there are a lot of people who are Pitt and Penn State, or Pitt and Notre Dame, fans - ones who didn't even attend any of those schools.

Nutting is a bitch. Does he really need to squeeze out more money by purposely scheduling the Bananas on a Saturday during football season. If he took a long walk off a short pier, NOBODY would fee bad.

Why do you care so much? You’re still boycotting right?

Does Nutting allow seat cushions?

there will be more fans in attendance at the banana's game than there will be at the pitt v duquesne game. literally..

I’m one those who didn’t go to Pitt but I’ve been a Pitt fan since my father who went to Pitt took me to my first Pitt game in 1956 vs Oregon. I still remember going to that game and was hooked ever since. When I was graduating from high school I wanted out of the area and away from home there was no way I was going to college in the city. When I came back I started to go to the Pitt games again in 1973 just in time for the TD era.

But it’s the rib fest🤣
nothing better than eating ribs at noon on a 90 degree day with zero seating or chairs (or shade) outside of gate A at accrisure...

with the lines to get the ribs right in front of the only walkway to get into the stadium because they put up make-shift fencing to bottle-neck everyone to the same spot...

I did go to Pitt, but I'd have been a Pitt fan even if I went someplace else because my fanhood started well before, and independently of, college. So I totally understand.

The odd cases, to me, are like my neighbor who didn't go to either school but is somehow a Pitt and a Penn State fan.
