Pitt absolutely needs to open their eyes, to how the youth wrestling community views them. They are failing, right now, at capturing young fans. My family is Pitt through and through, but my son talks Penn st wrestling because all his buddies talk about them. He's only 8 and most of his friends are between 8-12. They already have it in their minds, that when you talk wrestling, you talk Penn st.
We went to Penn st, for a youth tournament, this weekend, and you can tell that they get it. The Nittany Lion Wrestling club hosted it. There was over a 1000 kids, at the 1 day tourney. They had booths with Penn st wrestling gear selling like hot cakes. Jake Varner and David Taylor were there and even handed out awards and took pics with the kids. Pitt has no chance to compete, when they're battling odds like that. They were very good before Cael was hired, but he made them astronomically better. Pitt needs to get a name coach and bring in some well known assistants.
Pitt also needs to look into getting the youth involved. They have their own wrestling club and need to look into hosting an event, like the tourney at Penn st or something of that nature.
