Pitt's New Strategic Plan

They did get this TE Krull, who's 6'7 " 260 and fast right? They couldn't predict he'd get injured

RBs are a dime a dozen. Probably the least important position in sports. I can literally rush for 1000 yards behind a great OL
dime a dozen and we have a 1/2 dozen and none of them can play. That is quite a statistical anomoly. We've had very good O-lines under Chryst and finished 6-7. our O-lines were fantastic in '14 and '15 and well, we were a 500 team..

Be serious, will ya? Rome wasn't built in a half hour. If the stars align and Punxsutawney Griffin-Stewart, the handless groundhog, sees his shadow, maybe we can start talking about bringing a legit tight end in here by 2028 and perhaps a fullback some time by 2026.

Well, uh, we did have some OK RBs, Conner, Ollison, McCoy, Hall, Lewis? I'd say maybe we've had our share of good ones in the last decade or so.

OK, I meant the plan says a TE recruited out of HS, you know like most places. We cant always rely on grad transfer retreads.

They arent the problem. Sure, we can get better RBs but our OL stinks.

Would you rather have an 80s line and Vincent Davis at RB? Or this line with Dorsett, Conner, Martin, Shady, etc?
great question and i say the latter. guy like shady (i'll leave dorsett out of it, he's the best ever) can change a game. Ray Graham played behind lines that were so bad, Tom Savage life expectancy was cut in half and he kept defenses honest and really took over games. Dion was good but he had a really good O-line.

McCoy and Graham are two that jump out at me that made their own yards more often than not and excelled and really changed games and defensive strategies... We had the best lines in late 80's in College Football and was mediocre at best..

I'd go with a line from the early 80s and Vincent Davis.

FWIW Ray Graham had the benefit of the Todd Graham Spread for his breakout 1/2 season. He was in space more. He was never the same after the injury.

I know it may not actually seem this way, but we could actually do the same thing today. I checked, and there is no actual rule in the book prohibiting teams with crappy offensive lines from trying to spread out the defense.

Surely it seems as if there must be a rule that we are required to call slow developing running plays with a crappy offensive line at least a half dozen times a game, but no, there really isn't a rule like that either.

This conversation is what is wrong with Pitt. Since 1990 how many times can we say all 22 spots were filled with legit P5 talent (I know there was no P5 back in the 90s, but you get the point.) Outside of Wanny's last 2 years, I can't think of any others, and coaching did us in those years.

Every year we have a strong this, but a lousy that. You can't get into the top 25 that way. Your weakest link still needs to be at bare minimum average progressing to above average. We all see the results of not being talented enough and add bad coaching. Yikes.
