1. Basketball: As I posted in another thread, failed to remedy the biggest problem with the existing squad, which is lack of height and an inside threat. One of the volleyball recruits is taller than the Bb recruits. Maybe the coach will look overseas for post players.

2. Volleyball. Only one top 100 recruit after 3 last year. But, after signing 3 big hitters last season, the needs were elsewhere this year and Fisher seems to have filled them with a MB, a defensive/serving specialist and a setter.

3. Soccer. Signed 7 players. Glad to see Waldrum recruiting California. Four of the 7 are defensive players, where we lacked quality/depth this year. A defender from FB/wrestling power Clovis CA should be physical if nothing else. Unlike the men’s team, Waldrum doesn’t recruit much overseas.

4. Lacrosse. Signed 9 players. The coach raves about all of them as she does every year. Who knows? I assume most lacrosse players are on small partial scholarships or are walking because there are so many each year.

5. Softball. Unlike her brain dead predecessor, at least the new coach understood that her biggest need was pitching, signing two pitchers among 5 early signees. The most intriguing is a 6’2 hurler from Ohio who has 17 no hitters and 636 Ks, albeit at a small school. But, for me the most shocking stat is that the Catcher from Hampton in the WPIAL allegedly has only struck out 5 times in 3 years on the varsity. As a former fast pitch softball player who didn’t strike out a lot, that figure is almost impossible for me to comprehend.

I’m not aware of other sports releasing signees yet.

Good stuff Mike. I have nothing to add. I no longer subscribe to top drawer so I have no idea how this women’s soccer class ranks nationally.

That being said, you just never know because as I discussed with SMF, if Virginia gets a stud from the Cleveland Internationals and Randy gets a stud from Beadling, guess which player will be overvalued and then undervalued?

Honestly it’s why Randy was able to turn this program around so quickly. He knew how good local players like Shupansky and Coffield were and they were lower hanging fruit because they didn’t have every huge program in the country after them because they were simply wrongly undervalued coming out of western PA. Same with Mertz. Girls born before 2002 were all undervalued because there was no GA for them and Riverhounds were just getting the ECNL thing underway at their club. Beadling and Century were playing in US Youth Soccer and those players didn’t have the gravitas out of that league. So Landy went the mid major route like most of the talented western PA kids did and was probably still undervalued by her coaches at Dayton even after she got there. Randy comes in, flips her and she’s had a wonderful career at Pitt playing in a league she should have been in all along.

Randy coming to Pitt was the best thing to happen to western pa girls soccer. He awakened the rest of the college soccer world to the fact that players coming out of here can make impacts at the high major level. The generational talents would still get found (the Schrams, Kingenbergs, Latsgo’s) by the big boys…but the “4 star” types would find their way to the MAC and A10. Now in the last 4 years we have multiple players per year signing NLI’s at P5 schools when it used to be 1 player every few years. But, clubs like internationals will still land more players at the highest levels.

Re: #5
If that stat is true in only striking out 5 times in her WPIAL career, then my granddaughter, who signed her LOI to play at Akron as a P/OF racked up 3 of them!

The girl from Hampton struck out 7 times this year. It’s right in their Game Changer.

What's funny is she didn't even start or play much catcher for Hampton this past season!
Their starting catcher went to Endinboro.
She did catch some in travel though.
Nice girl.

How’ve you been Freeport? My kid and your granddaughter are Instagram friends. Did she tell you my kid ended up at Robert Morris?

Yep! Congratulations!
The softball sorority is a tight group!
We saw the Bobby Mo coach scouting an Outlaws tournament last summer.
It will be fun watching these girls cross paths in the future. Always a good time!
Take care, and good luck and best wishes going forward!
