As someone who hasn't much followed recruiting for the c/o 2020, I was hoping we could start a thread about some of our potential recruits. How many scholarships do we have? Who does everyone like? Would their commitment be a pipe dream? What are our positions of need?

13 seniors leaving, I don't see too many underclassmen going pro. Weaver and Pinnock if they have "Sick" seasons but that's a longshot.. On the flip side, I don't see too much dead-weight in that class too, all those names in that class look like they are producers and not likely to be pushed off to "Their life's work."

Guestimation would be 15-16 for this upcoming class. Always need 1 QB, 1 RB, prob 2 WRs, 1 TE. I am a fan of always trying to land at least 4 OL every class but that's just me..

TOugh to say what our biggest need is cause 1/2 these younger guys, we don't know what position they will play.. I'd say DE for sure but guys like Wright and George could be DEs as soon as August.. We need safeties IMO, even if Tallandier moves back we still need at least 2 in this class..

WR: Ffrench, Tipton and Matthews are all seniors.
TE: They lose Gragg and Medure.
Pass rushers
we have 7 WRs on the '20 roster and one already verballed for '20. Cant imagine them bringing in 3 for '20 but im just guessing..

I've barred myself from even commenting or speculating on the TE position. Can always use pass rushers. I think Duzzer goes heavy with DL/DEs, a good strategy imo.

Class will probably be closer to 19-20 - attrition happens at a high rate in college football typically 7-8 kids move on a year
geez, that's a ton of attrition. 7 people moving on or being pushed out? That seems high.

I have a friend who's son is invited to a Pitt camp of some sort in June. He's being recruited for DE, and is REALLY smart. He's getting looks from a lot of really good schools - several Ivy's, WF, Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers, Air Force, among others. Also some okay academic schools, too.

I've never seen him play, so I can't comment on ability. I know he played WR and LB earlier in his HS career.

It'll be interesting too see, as over the next two weekends, Pitt has prospect camps and we'll see if the Pitt staff offers any campers on site. Whether they commit or not, sometimes these kids commit on the spot. But with the BIGGGG weekend looming in two weeks, we'll see how much more of the class fills up, etc.

PITT needs a WR who can light it up and an RB who can do the same.

Fans love offense so it would be nice if Narduzzi can give them something they
want to show up for and watch.

Fitz, Baldwin, Boyd, ?????

Shady, Lewis, Conner, Ollison & Hall, we need another good one or two.
Ollison and Hall were very effective but not the "light it up" back that fans love.
We need one of them this season!

Maybe someone in both player area will show up this season.

There's plenty of opportunity for players to step up!

At least half of the class will come from that weekend.

im going out on a limb and saying that Ollison and Hall were better than any back that we currently have on our roster. maybe long run, im proven wrong but I strongly doubt we'll see a RB in '19 that is better than either Ollison or hall.

hope to heck im wrong..

ollison and hall were hell of backs here, they could have both easily left but stuck it out and if it wasn't for them we didn't win a single game last year

Agreed they were very effective and worked together very well.
I personally enjoyed watching them as much as any other PITT RB's including Shady or Lewis.
It would be nice to have an Ollison type "pound out the yards" runner and a "shake n bake" I can break one anytime for 90 yards kind of guy in the next few years.

Don't get out on that limb too far. We have some good RBs lurking in the wings.

I think there are truly few GREAT running backs and there are many, many good running backs. And if you have a decent line or system, running back is mostly a plug and play position anymore, and there are few true difference makers.

I hope but how do you know?

Please don’t tell me it’s because of their high school highlight videos. I’ll show you a million good backs if that’s the determining factor.

Fair question. So here is one back. how do you know they won't be any good?

my main point in this is not diminish our current RBs but moreso that I think a lot of pitt fans really do under value what Ollison did at pitt. 2800 yards and to be honest, he wasn't used at all in his 2nd year (behind Conner) and was in the duzzer doghouse his 3rd year..

I think you have to recruit a QB and RB every year. I would take every good DT we can get. Why? Because some can be moved to the OL ala Jason Pinkston and John Malecki, among others. (I include in DTs large DEs who might grow into DTs.) We clearly need TEs, so I would sign 2.

Including converted DL, we need 3 or 4 OL, 2 LBs and 3 DBs. 1 or 2 WRs should be enough.

The thing is though, while you have to recruit to fill needs, you can’t not take a special player no matter what the position is. So, my breakdown would be:

QB, RB, TE (2), OL (3), WR (1), DE (2), DT (3), LB (2), DB (3), Special Talents (2, more if you can). That’s 20 which I think will be the size of the class.

I have big hopes for Sibley because of acquaintances from ohio that know something of him and say he is a good kid with a real motor. Salahuddin came with good rep too. I have some admittedly wishful thinking optimism for one of them to break out. Davis? Not much enthusiasm for him. If he is the starter I think it is a bad sign.

Tons of RBs come with a good rep. Collier, James, Moss. We were all excited for these 4 star RBs with great highlights.

High school reputations for RBs mean squat. So many recruiting misses at this position. The chances of these 3 (salahuddin, sibley and Davis) even all finishing their careers at pitt are slim.

Well that's why i said wishful optimism. In my heart I hope one of them surprises like a Dion Lewis. But in my head, i'm thinking that the great tailbacks (and receivers) show those flashes the minute they come in to their first camp and can typically impress enough to push lesser veterans aside. Ollison and Hall were decent backs but draft horses, not thoroughbreds. Davis was completely underwhelming. Sala or Sibley should have been able to easily displace them if special enough in practice. (Though i think Sibley had injury issues). Sala even got snuck into a couple games but they did nothing with him. Our coaches are kind of conservative rockheads so maybe it was a "pay yer dooz n'at" mentality but i frankly doubt it. We'll see. The tailback battle is the A1 interest i have in the coming camp and season. Ive pretty much resigned myself to mediocre QB play so the run game HAS to be productive.
