Sean Miller Done At AZ?

The first domino is about to fall...

Jeff Capel leaves an upper-classman laden squad coming off two straight Sweet 16's to return to Duke. Enter Sean Miller, who returns home to lead us to his first career Final Four and our first Final Four in 80+ years. SMF gets arrested for streaking through Schenley Quad.

I’m not buying anything until Rich Walsh weighs in

He's going to get hit with a "show cause". Once that happens, Pitt won't touch him with the proverbial "ten foot pole".

Pitt lucked out for a change. Our normal luck is he would have become the HC and then fired because of all the crap and the program steps even further backward. Funny how what goes around, comes around.

Lucked out? We never were considering him as our coach, in spite of what Richie Walsh said.

That is not true.. We were and he wanted to come here, in the end Pitt said no which is why he came out with his comment late that evening when Sean found it it was not going to happen. I think the contract language and compliance from Pitt in the end thought it would be to dangerous. Heather made the better hire, Capel right now is what we needed.

Seriously?

Well, this shows you can't believe anything from anyone on these things. I heard we never considered him. In any case, if we would have hired him, Pitt would eventually be in pretty sad shape as a result of his antics. I'm sure glad we hired who we did, at least for now. The final verdict on Capel is still to be determined.

We were very very close to hiring him per reputable people on the pay board. Pitt's General Counsel wouldn't allow it, which is why she got a shout out during Lyke's opening statement at the presser. How many times does a GC get mentioned in those types of press conferences.

I still think Miller will coach here eventually. He will have plausible deniability for the Book thing. If AZ fires him, he'll do TV for a few years and be ready once Capel leaves.

If Pitt is willing to play dirty, I would much rather have Cal than Capel.

I fixed that for you.. Even while cheating at the highest level while playing in a pretty terrible conference- what has Sean accomplished? Without cheating he is probably a career assistant, nothing more.

7 Sweet 16s and 4 Elite 8s.

Sure, I'd rather have Cal. I'd happily settle for Miller though.

I think every coach that signs elite talent cheats.

What I like is he gets all kind of NBA talent so he's usually a threat to win it all and one day he probably will. Now, I dont know if he can get that talent at Pitt or if he can do it without cheating but when you get the types of players he does, you always have a chance.

He usually had top 4 talent, if not the top talent and still can't get out the way enough to make a Final Four or win a championship.

Whatever. I'll still take it. That's far better than the results we've gotten.

Results which are entirely the fault of your boy, Stallings.

How exactly does Sean Miller extricate us from this mess more quickly than Capel? You really think Sean Miller comes to Pitt and brings in a better recruiting class than Capel did? Do you believe that Sean Miller is some kind of magical fairy who could sprinkle some pixie dust and teach Terrell Brown how to catch the ball? Is he an alchemist? That'd be the only way for him to turn shit into gold.

I can't wait until Pitt is competitive again so you'll disappear for good. You're pathetic.

I’m not sure where you are getting your numbers? He had gone to 3 sweet 16’s and 4 elite eights.

Also, fun sean Miller fact...he has outperformed his seed line 4 times.

However, 2 of those times he beat out lesser seeds because there had been previous upsets.

In 06-07 as a nine they beat an 8.

In 07-08 they made an elite eight run as a 3, but in the sweet 16 they beat a 7.

In 12-13 they made the sweet 16 as a 6, but played a 14 in the second round then lost to a 7 in the sweet 16.

In 10-11 they did beat 1 seed duke to make the elite eight.

Sean Miller has beat a better seed twice, with one of those being a 9/8 game. Also, especially in the last couple of years he had had some pretty epic early flameouts, including a beat down to buffalo as a 4 seed last year, a loss in the sweet 16 to 11 seed Xavier two years ago, and a loss in the first round to 11 seed WSU three years ago.

For a fanbase that for so long obsessed about tournament performance, miler has been pretty dreadful considering his high seed likes and substantial talent advantages.

so basically he's just like Jamie Dixon but dirtier..
Pretty much equivalent in the NCAAs, but Sean has more regular season accolades with 8 regular season titles and 4 conference tournament titles over a similar number of years. Obviously, neither the PAC or the A10 were as deep as the BEAST or ACC.

Of course Miller would recruit a lot better than Capel. No doubt about it.

Well, leave Dixon out of this...I’ll take someone who is clean, has a ton of regular season success, but flames out over someone that cheats and does the same thing. I know people say pitt should just go ahead and cheat, but imagine doing what Miller has done, getting consistently elite talent, getting pinched, then getting your school on probation.

Honestly, what Miller has done with the talent he gets at Arizona is pretty underwhelming.

Miller is garbage and if Lyke is still around, he'd never be hired here. She's too smart for that.

But if he were hired with a different AD if Lyke left, I'd resign my Pitt basketball fandom and root against Pitt no matter who they played as long as he was the coach.
