Barnes just tweeted pitt has set a 91 year old record of season tickets sold at 53,775.

I think it was the Notre Dame fans. Securing their seats for the next time they travel to Pittsburgh.

Thanks Pitt I bought two,you guys can have them after Sept 10! Seriously it was cheaper than scalping them.So I'd like to thank Pitts Athletic Dept for providing affordable tickets for college football games!

PSU fans will claim they bought half of them. Not true of course, but to those PSU fans who did buy a Pitt season ticket, thank you for your financial contribution to our program.
Lol, yeah makes sense. Despite common sense and facts. But some Pitt fan from York. Pa knows 4 psu fans who did it so that translates to 20k season ticket plans sold to Sandusky valley fans.

We thank you for paying money for games you won't attend, which goes directly to our athletic dept. we will also appreciate your money for parking, hotel money, and pre gaming.

You bought season tix for one game, games you won't go to. But the joke is on us. Your money is always good here

Super - More $ for our athletic department. Maybe we should thank the Nitters for helping pay for Pat Narduzzi's contract.

Hey guys I'm just telling it like it is.Buying a season ticket was cheaper for me than buying(scalping) a ticket from a third party.Plus I'd much rather give the money to the Pitt Athletic Dept than some Joesmoe!Your lucky tickets are what they are at Pitt, your AD isn't ripping you off, like some!

You mean just like state penn AD is

Now the team needs to get out on the field and give all those new ticket holders a reason to come back next year, and the year after, and the year after, and...

I had season tickets for 11 years .. Got tired of asking my buddies to go...
I have been to about 4 Notre Dame games , but no psu.

Pitt athletic dept doesn't have that burden of making money to pay victims for decade of institutional sodomy. I use that term because it's only possible to get to the level it was if it was condoned by an institution.

If you really think tickets off of a scalper will cost more the $200 a piece for a single game....then you're a moron. Sure they might be there now, but they will drop down big time closet to gameday.

By my count on Pitt's ticketing site there are only 99 season ticket seats remaining, and some of those are isolated singles. This season tickets remaining obviously isn't counting the 10K allotment to students tickets which will be sold out. We are probably only a few days away from Pitt announcing a season ticket sell-out.

53,775 was also the goal they set earlier this year. Last year they apparently had about 47,317K season ticket holders, and Pitt reported having a >93% renewal rate this year (so over 44K in renewals).

They aren't selling the remaining mini-packages in the 99 remaining seats available as season tickets. This may mean that the seats where the non-PSU mini packages are being sold are also where they may have sold the extra PSU tickets to Pitt boosters. Apparently Pitt has sold over 4K mini-packages.

Thank you. The ticket office says you can donate them back to their kids program and take a tax write off if that helps with the pain of having to buy the $234 package.

While this is good news in many ways, it also means an abundance of tickets will be on the streets for most of the games. Of course the Pedophile U game will still be a tough ticket to get, the remainder of the games will have many tickets floating around for sale. This will fluctuate, along with the street price, based on the opponent and whether the Panthers win or not. Basic economics.

If we have 50,000 for Villanova, then you will know we have really turned the corner. That would be a more than tremendous turnout. 50,000 for any Game can get pretty loud. James Conner getting the ball on play #1 will surpass any cheer Larry Fitzgerald ever got. Doesn't matter if it's a 2 yard loss on the play.

We had 49,969 against YSU last year. In 2003 we had 56,531 against Kent State, so I would look for something closer to Kent.

Paco: if we get 56,000 for Villanova, at least 20,000 will be Penn State fans that bought season tickets. That's what their fans keep saying.

If someone really wants to set an over/under on actual attendance (not announced attendance) for the Pitt-Villanova game at 56,000 I'll take the under for any amount of money that anyone wants to lose, er, I mean bet.

out of the box thinking here:
- Could Pitt offer to buy back all non-PSU tickets from those that bought season tix for just the PSU game.

Its true that it often makes sense to buy season tix rather then scalp or go for single game tix.. at least it gives peace of mind that your seats are locked in. Sooooo

There may be away to offer a very low-ball amount for lazy people who dont want to post all these tix and deal with selling. Pitt could offer $50 to get those seats back and sell them a second time. If collectively they could get more than $50 it would be profit and would result in more buts in seats buying beer and food.

You are welcome. Now can you tell me how I can unload the other six games?

Are you new to the internet? Tons of websites help you re-sell tickets.

Are you kidding? I've seen the huge availability of Pitt tickets on the secondary market. In short - There is no secondary market for Pitt football tix.

In other words...
You're not very bright .
Do you comprehend the contradiction of claiming to buy season tickets for 1 game, but staying there is t enough demand for a secondary market.

It's okay , you know you're bullshitting .

No Steve last year + script last year.

Wonder what variable changed?
That, and the season that had the record previously -2003 - essentially had Steve as the AD and no script.

As for the nitters, hey, if I was a fan of that team, I'd buy a season ticket package also. Our tickets are relatively cheap. And, if we're the obsessive type, I'd revel in contributing to Pitts empty seat problem.

Meanwhile Pitt can revel in them helping solve our revenue problem. Win-win!
Meh.

I don't get the appeal some have here with other teams bringing a lot of fans. I don't want to see them in our stadium, wearing their colors, cheering against the Panthers.

Frankly, if the seats can't be filled by Pitt fans, I'd rather they be empty.

For football, with Nordy and Smiley gone, it's not surprising at all.

The fans have stepped up. Now it's the players and coaches turn.
