Serious discussion about this

Yes. He is.

Maybe not utterly and completely. But in general, yes. He is wrong.

I'm a firm believer that medications are way over prescribed. But there is enough peer reviewed scientific research to indicate that there are true mental issues that are helped by medications.

I know someone suffering from depression and medication has done wonders.

I also have an unfortunate personal experience during an annual physical several years ago when the doctor asked me how I'm feeling mentally. I told him "I'm fine - get a little down in the winter, but who doesn't?" and smiled and laughed.

I go to leave and his nurse hands me a prescription for an anti-depressant. I knew I wasn't depressed (no offense to those who do suffer from it, but fortunately for me, I do not, at least I don't think I do). So I tore up the prescription and threw it away when I got home. Never filled it. Flash forward to a couple years later. I was trying to buy health insurance. Got rejected because my medical records indicated I was suffering from depression. I told them "no, I'm not." They then told me about the prescription that the doctor wrote. I had to go back to my doctor, explain the situation, have him remove it from my chart and appeal the insurance company's decision. Ended up going with a different carrier. And now I have a new doctor. All because of a simple half joking remark. The point is that he asked me no follow up questions. Didn't ask me if I thought I needed help. Didn't even mention anything about it. Just wrote a script based on my answer to one question. I'm sure my story is not an uncommon one.

But, having said all of that, mental illness is often a medical condition that can't be helped by talking to someone.

It’s one thing to continue to love them and nurture them. It’s a totally different thing to accept this as normal behavior. Jesus didn’t tell the woman at the well
To go back out and continue to be promiscuous

They need compassion. That doesn't mean coddling and agreeing with their choices. It means helping them understand the reality.

yep, pretty much simplified at treating the symptoms and not the cause. which is what the pharmaceutical industry built a multi billion dollar foundation on..
There are a lot of ailments that have no known cures that are significantly helped by medication. Unfortunately years of people just thinking that someone was lazy or weak hampered studies into mental illnesses. But make no mistake, medication helps a lot of people function. But, like I said in another post, I believe medication is over prescribed and jumped to as the first solution to a problem. So both things - that it is a good thing and an abused thing - can be true.

Your experience suggests it’s way over diagnosed. The first thing doctors do is propose a med rather than get to the root cause Much of today’s issues have to do with technology that keeps people from direct human interesting and not getting outside in the sun which is critical. Of course diet and excercise are key. But have you ever seen a doctor ask or propose any of those things? Of course not. There’s no money on that

On to the other subject

Doctors overprescribe medications that aren't needed. And people think doctors know everything about their health. I agree...our society is way overprescribed. We could shrink the pharma industry in half and it would still be too big and too many prescriptions being filled for unnecessary stuff.

I'm sorry you had to go through that nonsense with your doctor. I'd have to be contemplating suicide to tell my doctor that I felt depressed. My Dad had severe depression and I know what that looks like. It's not the blues that doctors prescribe Xanax for.

Not true. Ever taken an anti-biotic?

You are taking something that has some truth to it and over generalizing it. Not sure why you are doing that, but you are.

It seems that the far right is taking every simpleton POV these days and making it their platform. It will bite them or us at some point. Hoping it happens to them before it happens to us.

they conformed to modern sensibilities while other religions, who will go unnamed, continue to look the other way while grown men rape little girls under the rules out ancient barbaric religious customs.
Yep and those that have conformed to much of modern morality, which is the vast majority of Christianity I believe, should be applauded for that. It's a great thing, but it further proves my point about ensuring a secular government. They didn't conform because that's what their religious doctrine says is acceptable, they did so in spite of the writing. So why should they turn around and point to some other doctrine and act like it's an infallible law that should be followed by everyone?

Society is able to reach its own conclusions on what is acceptable for the whole and drags religion along behind it waiting to see if it will conform, thankfully most of Christianity gradually ignores its own teachings and embraces modernity at a faster pace than others.

I love hearing lectures on reality from people believe there was once a boat that contained two of every animal on the planet.

Hey! I believe that. I've seen the artifacts from it. In Kennywood.

Here is proof!

I should have said many medications

The main point is medications should be the last resort not the first line of attack

There’s tons of evidence out there that sunlight excercise diet and sleep have a huge impact not only on your physical health but mental health.

So what does wanting to be healthy and using natural methods have to do with being alt right ? Good Lord

True story, we once had a family reunion at Kennywood. While walking along the whale's tongue, my brother thought it would be funny to trip one of our cousins. Poor cousin Jimmy, that was the last anyone ever saw of him.

Please recite the biblical mandate for maritability. I'm curious what you're thinking of. Koran maybe? I seriously never heard an age mandate. 🤔

So how do we decrease the number of Muslim mosques being built in the US?

More restrictive building and zoning permits?

Reinstating prayer in public schools?

Limiting the Muslim population to one child per household?

Ethnic cleansing?

How do we get our young white women to have more kids and get back in the kitchen?

How do we get more Americans back to church on Sundays?

The phrase separation of Church and State isn't in there. Better you read it again, and read deeper. 😉

no but the Establishment clause doesn't allow the government to establish a state religion. What exactly are you getting from your "deep read". Let me guess you have a pocket copy of the constitution at the ready.

Are you guys doing this on purpose? Again, for the millionth time, Twitter isn't a news source. Just because a guy called Wall St. Apes posted this, doesn't mean its true. Please link a legitimate source for this information because there is no point in commenting on something that is very likely fake "news."
Just because it is on Twitter (which the left used to reference all the time) doesn't also make it not true.

Rank the following in order of what scares you the most to the least:

Drag queen story hour
Minorities that are in your neighborhood
Muslims
Urban areas
Joe Biden
What is this lefty thing about conservatives feeling some kind of way about urban areas or minorities. I was raised in the rocks, went to public school, was only white dude invited to black graduations in the projects, have 3 step black sons. Have great relationship with sons black father and I'm white conservative. They are now conservative. I dont ever put minorities into some kind of box like liberals do.

But if any man thinks he is behaving improperly toward his virgin, if she is past the flower of youth, and thus it must be, let him do what he wishes. He does not sin; let them marry.

That isn't separation of church and state. You don't know what that means. You really need to retake a basic civics class. This is the fallacy that the left keeps pushing and it's a lie.

Twitter or X is a much better news source that any of the mainstream media. More people get their news from X than anywhere else. You don't have to believe it and I don't care if you do. You can keep spouting off your nonsense and it won't make it true. Keep getting your news from Kimmel or Colbert or MSNBC. That's why your posts are so foolish.

Nah. Too many years studying it to need a pocket copy. Now, 40 years ago, sure.
I bought them in bulk to hand out.

Regardless, Congress has never passed any law establishing any religion. This thread just recently was about city ordinances. I don't see why the establishment clause would apply to the city of Minneapolis noise ordinance.

The establishment clause doesn't allow the FEDERAL government to establish a NATIONAL religion. States follow their State Constitution.

Also, people like to cite Jefferson's 1802 letter to the Danbury Baptists where he presented his opinion on how religion and government interact. Unfortunately, TJ couldn't be of assistance because Connecticut had full authority to establish its State religion. Until it modified its State Constitution 16 years later.

Now, the 14th amendment comes into play with its contrived selective incorporation interpretation. But that's a separate discussion.

But my main point is usually to explain that posting the ten commandments on a county courthouse is no concern of the federal government. Posting them on a federal building...well now you do have a concern.
