SMS fired

I heard rumors she did similar things that Rene Portland did at Penn State. Which explains a lot

So what changed from Duquesne to Pitt.?? I get it Burt may have been the key there but you'd think there would be some indications of the kind of stuff shes being accused of a Pitt. You didnt see the mass player exodus at Duqeusne back when she was there.

Heard this guy in the mix

It's not Christmas Noel.
Mazzone I mean.

She was never a good coach and should not have been hired at Pitt. Good riddance.

Does Sean Millers wife coach? lol
Better line, and I forget the movie:

"I heard you were dead? " Reply: "I got better"

Escape from New York

This is a good one from the same movie Escape From New York:

Bob Hauk: You going to kill me, Snake?

Snake Plissken: Not now, I'm too tired.

[pause]

Snake Plissken: Maybe later

I use that Not Now I'm Too Tired Maybe Later line all the time haha.

Or in Commando......

Arnold Swarzenegger's character: "Remember when I told you Sully that I would kill you last". Right before he is ready to drop "Sully" off of a cliff......"I lied".

Who hired this coach ( SMS).

PITT athletics should publish a chart showing previous and current coaches and the PITT AD who hired them.

It would be a large chart.

It's hard to keep track of?????????????

True, at least when you consider the recruiting part (which is of utmost importance in either men's or women's college hoops).

However, given that she always seemed to have had coaching (Xs and Os) success when she had talent to work with (WNBA, USA Basketball, her first year at Pitt, etc.). My theory as to the fail (I have zero insider info) is:

A. Weak recruiting--especially for the ACC.

B. Total frustration taken out on the players recruited when they were unable to perform to the level she would have gotten from top level talent.

If Shea Ralph gets it as some have speculated, that would be a pretty good hire. No HC experience but a big name nationally. Very well thought of. She left Pitt before in disgust over the lack of commitment here. I don't think that can be said any more.

When the weather is bad and I can't golf, play tennis, ride my bike, kayak, ski or snowboard in the winter I love to grab and bottle of wine and watch the Shoot Em Up - Beat Em Up movies by Mel Gibson, Bronson, Eastwood, McQueen, Lee Marvin etc.:
Dirty Harry
Death Wish
Magnum Force
Die Hard
Lethal Weapon
Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid
Dirty Dozen
etc.

Love the quotes in all of them!

She was not a good enough coach in the WNBA or college to justify an offer from Pitt. It was a terrible choice by Steve, but it pleased people because she was local. At Duquense for 6 years, the best she could do was a third place finish in the conference, and only one time. That is NOT bad, but NOT good enough to move on to Pitt. It would have been like if Pitt had hired a men's coach to replace Dixon, and that coach had proven mediocre results in an easier conference. Oh wait.

Stallings. Suzie. Both TERRIBLE hires. And Kevin had better overall results previously, which shows how bad the Suzie hire actually was.

Hmm, piqued my interest:

Football: N/A hired without an AD
Men's Basketball: Lyke
Women's Basketball: Lyke
Baseball: Pederson
Diving: Lyke (I think)
Gymnastics: Lyke
Track and Field, CC Pederson
Swimming: Barnes
Men's Soccer: Barnes
Softball: Pederson
Tennis: Pederson
Women's Soccer: Lyke
Volleyball: Pederson
Wrestling: Lyke

Think this is accurate, but feel free to correct!

Suzie was Coach Of The Year in the WNBA. She can coach, but in college, recruiting is the name of the game.

A+ for memory, A attention to detail and B for response time which is a good report card.

I'm 3/4 into my wine bottle watching the Masters cheering for cute and cuter ( Justin & Dustin) throw Rickie in there and that would make for a worthwhile afternoon for sure and three isn't a crowd. ya ya

I don't think she is a good coach. She was 58-67 after 4 years as a WNBA coach before getting fired (Wanny had a better winning percentage with the Bears and Dolphins). Started off OK, then downhill. She wasn't good enough at Duquesne to land the Pitt job. Average to slightly above average there. She should never have been offered the Pitt job. Steve did it because it was a crowd pleaser.

i remember most people were happy when she was hired

i'm no expert on women's basketball coaches but she's seems to be the type that rose up the ranks based on her success as a player and winning high school state championships at a school that recruits and won state championships without her
