and these leagues like the NHL, NBA, and MLB with all partial seasons or cancelled....do the players take a pay cut? They should. Definitely a group that can afford pay cuts or revenue drops is anyone associated with the pro sports leagues.

How would the spoiled players act? How would fans react to childish millionaires maybe only getting $3-8 million this year instead of $10-20 million? What happens to advertisers?

This...."don't worry we'll get it back" when this might not be true, in fact things like seat licenses and season tickets maybe dumped in the name of mortgages, car payments, health bills. This is short term. How about long term?

What about college sports, no NCAA BB tourney, no NCAA FB, what about the non revenue, Title IX sports? What about these facilities and coaches salaries? Even moreso, do these schools start looking at these geographically expansive conferences and realize, while for FB and the BB programs, they make sense, Pitt women's soccer doesn't really need to play Miami and FSU when WVU and Duquesne (and PSU) is a short bus ride. Or wrestling. Will schools just start dropping some of these sports?

My guess is legally unless it is spelled out in their contracts, players will be paid.

NBA asked the players to take a 50% but. Union cake back with 25% so that’s one league where it will definitely happen.

If the NBA Players Union counter-offered with a cut north of 0%, then a cut is 100% happening. The only question is how much.

The most logical starting point would be to prorate salaries according to the number of regular season games played.

Yes, this is what I would think is logical and fair. Especially if it is gateless, which harms the NHL which is the most gate driven league.

I'm sure they'll work it out. Pretty close to the least of our worries, between the greedy owners and the greedy players.
One thing for sure, the gate receipts will plummet.
This nonsense about the NFL starting on time is laughable if there is still a lethal virus circulating out there.

Even if they were foolish enough to try, how many people would risk sickness or death to wave a towel elbow to elbow with some other unknown "fan"?

The country will be starved for distractions, so who knows if they will start some sports back up without fans? At least they'd get the TV revenue.

Lots of things will need to be recalibrated after this is over. Until there is a foolproof vaccine this thing will be around in some form, as will the apprehension in dealing with it.

But in the big scheme of things, I could care less if the owners and players maintain their opulent lifestyles. I'd much rather see doctors and nurses get a nice raise than Gerrit Cole getting $200,000,000!

That was my exact thinking. I was honestly shocked that the initial counter from the Union was as high as it was. It looks like they wanted to wait for it to kick into place until May as well. But as you said, the fact that any good faith counter was made virtually guarantees a pay cut.

It's a mature choice and almost certainly the right one. The players, especially guys like Embiid, have put their money where they mouth is from the start by paying concession wages and things like that and now taking a pay cut. Honestly, good for them for acting like leaders in this horrible circumstance.

I would again have to think golf would be the first comeback. You can play without crowds, have responsible social distancing.

Many thoughts have the US Open moved to Torrey Pines and played sometime in August. It would be great, because the US Open on the West Coast could be played into prime time on the East Coast.
