Starting lineup

Or Femi Will Mo Payton J.H.
Right, the question is are you going to play a freshman because of position identity or a more experienced player that would be playing against type?

Femi, Will, Collier, Gueye, Hugley. Wouldn't be surprised to see Payton instead of Collier, but I'm giving the edge to Collier because he seemed higher in the pecking order in the scrimmages and against Gannon. We're gonna be tall as hell for a while, that's for sure.

You're not starting EZ he's the only back up PG.

The current version of Jeffress and Collier have you playing 3 against 5 on offense.

No doubt, but we're gonna be tall as all hell. I'll be optimistic and say that Jeffress and Collier combined will give us a 4 on 5 situation.

But I do think that if we just go really, really tall and long, that might be enough to defend our way through a decent portion of the OOC schedule.

I was referencing A Payton or Olidapo over Santos.

Santos will be need for rotation minutes, but I would not start him unless Jeffress provides no offense at all.

I think that’s a good point. I know people have sort of already written off this year but Capel can’t, and he can’t lose to the Citadel, or Wilmington. These are legitimately awful teams, and maybe our best shot to scrape out some ugly wins is just playing bully ball and rolling with it

I don’t know 3/4 of these players. My god when did it become so hard to follow this team?? I miss Dixon and watching his players grow from puppies to bull dogs.

We were always going to have to rock fight our way through ACC games, so it doesn't really make much sense to try and do anything different in OOC play. We're going to play every game this season with a switchblade.

It's what happens when you lose your starting shooting guard (ACL), you don't have your first and second guys off the bench (knee surgery and aggravated assault), your starting center was out for the year last year (stolen car), your starting small forward barely played last year (was a child), and your power forward wasn't on the team (Stony Brook).

Ez
Femi
Jeffrexx
Gueye
Hugs

I agree with this. We only have 1 scholarship guard. Onye is going to have to play a ton whether he starts or not.

BTW, it is Capel's fault that we only went into the season with 4 scholarship guards. Have we ever had that few?

Plus all the transfer outs.

We're only a few years removed from Kevin Stallings calling Jamel Artis a point guard. The scholarship "guards" listed on that roster included Chrisshawn Clark (who never played here), Jamel Artis, Damon Wilson, Cam Johnson, and Jonathan Milligan.

For tomorrow?

Ball Control and not turning it over, Defense while trying to limit fouls, Rebounding. It sounds boring and like an old school Pitt team from the early 2000s but its what we are going to be. We are going to play slow, we are going to try to dictate our tempo, we are going to try to win the turnover margin, on the boards, and with team defense.

Jeffress is going to do these things. He had the 2nd lowest turnover rate on the team last year at 9% as a 17 year old kid. I have Femi at the 1 and Jeffress at the 2 logging heavy minutes at both. Jeffress was just under a 2-1 assist to turnover ratio last year.

My last spot is either going to Santos at the 3 because we need 3 point shooting desperately, or Payton at the 4 with Gueye at the 3, because I think Payton is going to be a quality rebounder immediately and is significantly ahead of Collier rebounding. And Gueye has shown at least a small ability to knock down some outside shots early on.

Payton hasn't played the 3 position at all recently. He was a 5 primarily at Indian Hills in JC and averaged over 10 boards per game in a little over half the game. Payton had the best rebounding efficiency ratings in all of juco last year. He is going to hit the glass for us.
