State adds home game

Wow, I hear the Vandals are really up and coming. ODU destroyed them in their 5th year of having a football program.

James Franklin on the radio show tonight was asked by a fan about a rivalry with #Rutgers. Adds "We have one geographically and that's Pitt"

But the nitters say they are a big time program and they don't compare against PITT. Go hit the showers boys Jerry Jerry

Most of their big 10, 11, 12, 13 schedule is a joke too. Keep sipping the kool-aid nitwits. But it's not about football there, no.........

Well they say they want to play a national schedule in Happy Valley. The Bama's, the Irish, and the Vandals.

2019 Idaho
What better way for Franklin to pump-up that winning percentage?

And watch for it: the Post-Gazette will soon run an article on the strength of Idaho football, and that Franklin has roots in Idaho: that his great-great grandfather, "Spud" Franklin, was a potato farmer in a little village outside of Boise.

Franklin is a lot like Jopa, most of his wins will come against teams with a losing record. The 409 was mostly wins against bums.......check it out

Ah, I see that the nitters post got deleted before I could reply.
Pitts ooc is hardly great this year. Good but not great. But still light years better than what psu has played for the past few seasons.
But, no surprise, you're missing the context. It's not that psu scheduled Idaho. It's that a school that is known for soft ooc sceduling and a coach who brags about soft ooc scheduling announces the addition of one of the worst division IA teams out there.
Now, if teams like Auburn and Ucla round out the rest of the 2019 ooc schedule, then hey, no one can criticize playing Idaho. But it's far more likely psu's ooc in 2019 will be pitt, Idaho, Polk high, and the sister's of the poor. Which, whether pitt goes 11-1 all those years or 6-6, is still a lame ooc, but one that is certainly par for the course for psu.

Why is this confusing? Their fan base does not care to play top teams!

It's a really good post and think you guys should jump right in...

Interesting thread. I especially enjoyed the last post stating PSU would go 5-2/4-3 against the SEC West.

For the most part, I think all fans agree that scheduling is falling short of expectations of the players and fans. No one gets excited when teams like Idaho, Delaware, Temple, etc show up on the schedule. There is room for rivals, but a chance to play in a bowl game with 3-4 warmup games is what has taken precedence.

Most of their future schedules were done with the assumption that they would be coming out of the sanctions.

Adding Idaho goes along with the new Big Ten scheduling rules. In 2019 they will have 9 conference games and will be playing Pitt as the OOC power 5 opponent. They will not be scheduling a FCS opponent because the Big Ten banned those games.

I can’t wait to play the nit wits! They will have a melt down of catastrophic proportions when they lose.

but…but….but we have a big aluminum stadium up in the middle of nowhere with every man, woman and child between Philly and PITTsburgh at our home games, regardless of the quality of opponent.

they will play the sanction card for the next decade. sanctions are the reason for the weak out of conference schedules, sanctions are the reason for sackenburg's crappy year last year, sanctions are why they will lose games for the next decade. and when they win, the narrative will be "look at the adversity PSU had to overcome, or James can coach afterall." Being a nitter fan means always having excuses for everything. And I didn't even include their usual "the refs are out to get us because they are jealous of us, or we lost the game because we only recruit stellar kids with high morals."

Remind me again who you guys play this week??

Youngstown State, Akron, Iowa, and ND (2015); Villanova, Penn State, Oklahoma State, Marshall (2016)

vs.

Temple, Buffalo, San Diego State, and Army (2015); Kent State, PITT, Temple (2016)

I'll let you be the judge on the more competitive OOC schedule.

It has to happen next year because the level they are recruiting at is going to cause a major talent gap. If they win 9-10 games this year their recruiting will take the next big step.

How could they not win 9-10 games this year? Outside of OSU, MSU, and MU (kind of) the rest of their schedule is laughable. Talent, while extremely important, is best evaluated by the coaches, not the recruiting sites. Additionally, development of that talent is where the staff at PITT will make their money early in their careers at PITT.

I put more stock into the committable offers a recruit has than the number of stars unless I get the chance to really watch him, not just highlights.

Penn States biggest issue this year will be the same as last, the O-line. This was the are that was hit hardest by the sanctions, I believe they lost 6 or 7 four star guys that would juniors and seniors. They have guys starting that may start for any other team in the Big Ten, the beliefs is they can not be as bad as last year and a year playing together will make them better.

There is a large base of PSU fans who hate HATE our OOC schedule. Attendance for these games is down and people like me and my wife will not travel 3 hours and spend hundreds of $$'s to watch Idaho in person. The notion that the PSU fanbase prefers this is totally ignorant.
