T.J. Watt Steeler MVP

Wait, you are surprised that they voted as team MVP the guy who is currently the odds on favorite to win NFL Defensive Player of the Year?

Not surprised
Watt had a great year last year, and the Steelers were 8-8, you can't win without a QB in the NFL, like him or not Ben is the straw that stirs the drink, so to say, especially with no freaking running game, without him they don't make the play-offs, check last year's debacle

He had a more consistent season. If there is such a team award, Ben is clearly comeback player of the year.

Hopefully TJ can convince JJ to join the Steelers this off-season via free agency. Would love to see the Watt brothers on the same team. Great family. Would be awesome for the Pittsburgh community.

Watt was far and away the best player on the team this year, no one else was really even close.

The award we are talking about is the Team MVP, who gives the team the most chance of winning Championships, not POY. Without good QB play you don't win consistently in the league. I realize the casual fan in Pittsburgh loves great defensive players and in Pittsburgh all quarterbacks are the problem, but the fact is the complexity of the position makes it much more difficult to succeed as a QB. Add in the fact that when a QB makes a bad play it is easy to spot and of course in the last minutes of the game many times seems more crucial, most fans have no idea how many assignments an defensive player missed, nor do i hear fans screaming at players who get blocked, etc. . Far and away, the QB play determines the trajectory of a team's season. Follow the money in the league.

While true, I wouldn’t give it to the guy with how he played down the stretch. Statistically he just wasn’t worthy. He deserved it in other years though.

MVP doesn’t mean valuable at any level, it’s simply the award given to the best player. I almost wish they had awards for Most Outstanding Player and Most Valuable Player because they mean two different things.

Ben is easily the MVP of the Steelers (every year). With him back in the lineup they are four games better than last year.

If that's your criteria for a team MVP award then there is literally no sense in any team ever giving one out, because the starting quarterback would be the winner every single year.

Fortunately most people don't think that way.

Not a casual fan and don’t live in Pittsburgh.
