Emotions always take over during and after a game. Especially a loss, it seems.
In high school, my history teacher taught me something that I still think about. E-R = I. Expectations - Rewards = Insecurities. This was used by the teacher to analyze modern European history, but it sure seems to be equally applicable to Pitt basketball.
How many people who post here expected that somehow this Pitt team was going to turn its whole season around and make a run in the NCAA? Really? This was a very average team that somehow won just enough games to make the tournament. To win games in the tournament requires something that this Pitt team doesn't have, and that is talented players. There are a few players on this team who are decent college players, but there isn't anyone who can rise up and play at a level beyond average for sustained periods of time. We all know this - most of the posters on this board decry the lack of talent regularly. So why the expectations?
Sure, Wisconsin is no better than Pitt. Maybe worse. But not by much.
So say Pitt squeaks by Wisconsin. Then what?
Look, Dixon is a fine coach. Given the right amount of talent, he would do better than most coaches with it. He doesn't have it right now. But for sure, that is his responsibility and he should and will have the runway to get more talent and get this team back to where the expectations can reasonably be high once again.
If that doesn't happen next year or the year after, there is no question Pitt will have a new coach.
