ACC: 3 teams in the Top 10
B1G: 3 teams in the Top 10
SEC: 1 team in the Top 10
P12: 1 team in the Top 10
B12: 1 team in the Top 10
Independents: 1 team in Top 10

Wasn't that long ago, that the ACC and B1G would be lucky to have 1 team in the Top 10.

And now... we're looking at only one SEC team in the Top 15 even.

Of all the championship games this weekend.... only the B1G and ACC have compelling matchups..... the SEC has a dud in Alabama vs Florida - Florida would finish 5th or 6th in most every other conference this year. And the P12 title game is a rematch of a game already played this year... and USC has 4 losses. Dud city.

Two games will have all the TV eyes this weekend.... Clemson-UNC and Iowa-MSU.

But UNC won't get a sniff at the playoff if they beat Clemson?

Never said they wouldn't get a sniff.

I think if both UNC and Stanford wins, due to 2 FCS teams and a bad loss to a 3-9 USCjr team, I think Stanford would get the edge. Has nothing to do with their conferences. And I believe the decision would be close.

There's no way anyone can justify UNC being left out if they win. Beating Clemson would be the most impressive thing a team has done all season. I'd put Stanford right behind them though, with Ohio State very far below them.

You have to look at the whole season. Not just that one game.

It definitely helps though.

I would argue that Mississippi beating Alabama *AT* Alabama is more impressive than UNC beating Clemson on a neutral field.

And Mississippi ain't getting in. A season is more than one game. Stanford and UNC would BOTH be conference champs, and the committee would have to select one of them. In that case, Stanford's resume is MUCH better:

More FBS wins (11 to 10)
More Top 25 wins (5 to 1)
Better "losses" (Northwestern and Oregon...both ranked.... vs 3-9 South Carolina)

I think Stanford would edge UNC out.... Unless UNC absolutely pulverizes Clemson, which isn't likely.

I don't think the Pac-12 game is a dud, even if it is a rematch. Stanford and USC are both fun teams to watch.

The SEC is really down this year. Several teams in the league have been wildly inconsistent. Florida's offense has been atrocious the last 4 games. It would have been interesting to see what the Gators would have been like had Will Grier not gotten suspended.
