-Remember last year everyone said Voytik was the man at QB and then Peterman beat him out. Now we have a big mobile QB in TMac that can run and has a cannon for an arm and loves running the football. How many reps can TMAC possibly get?

6'5
220lbs
4.5 40 Time Speed
Played the 3rd Toughest Schedule in high school football last year
Averaged 310 Pass Yards per game
22 Passing TD's
1 Interception

-LSU was all over him and tried to steal him off us. Most underrated player not talked about ever on this board. Complete Boss Stats last year. Would like to get him in the game because he could run some type of option or throw the ball down the field. I dont care he is a true freshmen. He doesn't turn the ball over and has 4.5 Speed at QB.

I think most Pitt fans are aware and excited about MacVittie's upside, but to compare the situation to Peterman vs. Voytik last season is a stretch. Peterman came to Pitt at 21 years old and had logged 3 seasons under college coaches with some limited game experience at QB within an SEC program. I don't think MacVittie has logged 3 full seasons of playing QB at any level in his life yet. If he is somehow our starter, he is a phenom beyond anybody's projections.

-A QB that makes plays and doesnt fold under pressure, isnt afraid to run, and can throw on the move and escape pressure. Definition of playmaker.

The key to the season is if Peterman can be a leader and not throw picks in the endzone this season.
He needs to step up big time.

6'5" qb that can run a 4.5 is pretty fantastic.

-In the last 5 years of the NFL draft, Macvittie has the 2nd fastest 40 time of all QB's combined that went to the NFL. That's how impressive that number is. He also ran a 4.5 shuttle at 6'5, that is COMPLETE boss. He has the 10th fastest shuttle time for All NFL QB's in the NFL combine the last 2 years.

-The hype is 100% legit.

-And I dont care what the star system says, this is hands down the best recruiting class in the last 30 years, and I dont think its even close. Between the offer sheets, the 40 times, the strength numbers, and multiple players being state player of the year award winners, we hit home runs all over the place last year in recruiting.

I refuse to go all "Steel-Curtain" on everybody but this class was underrated IMO. Hamlin, Moss, Camp et.al are going to surprise some folks. Jimmie "One Finger" was after Ffrench, Campbell, and company for a reason.

First time I've seen this kid play. I don't know who timed him at 4.5 forty, but he sure doesn't look that fast with a football in his hand. Pretty trite complaint though considering everything else I saw. Holy cow, what a quarterback. How many stars is he (just out of curiosity)?

-Mostly 3 Star. 247 jumped his ranking to a 4 Star and the 84th best high school player in the entire country and 8th best QB in the country when LSU was coming hard after him. They never even updated the ranking on their website when Pitt won the recruiting battle over LSU. Here is the article talking about LSU pulling out all the stops to get him. It also talks about him really liking Matt Canada, go figure.

Steel is the Pitt version of this guy:

Yes Peterman beat out Voytik, or did he? I don't think Chad got fair chance, it seemed like Chaney had it planed to replace Voytik with peterman immediately, someone he recruited at Tennessee, did Voytik really play that bad with the couple of plays that he did play (not that many) I don't know, just sayin

Yeah Chad may not have had a fair chance, life isnt fair.
He is obviously upset and moved on. He did get a degree from a good University.
He was too small, could not see over lineman.

To be fair, his 4.50 time was recorded at the Army prospect combine after the 2013 season (probably not a 6'5" frame at that time). His senior profile listed 4.61. Still impressive.

You can run like a deer. Have a rocket arm. And still end up average at best.

You need great vision, anticipation, pocket presence, and tremendous football IQ. To be a very good QB. Lets hope he has the qualities i mentioned. If so... he will be special.

And even if he is that special player, we won't get to see it next year, when he is guaranteed to redshirt barring big injury problems in the QB depth chart. He has one season as a varsity starting QB. Hell he didn't even enroll early.

I would hope so. Kid has the talent, but as someone else noted, he would be a phenom rarely seen in the game if with his limited experience as a QB overall, he played this year.

Years ago, I had the head football coach at Apollo Ridge tell me he had a dozen kids on the team who could run 4.5s.

I just busted out laughing because that was so absurd.

Him being an ex marine almost came after me and ripped my throat out.

Kid is very fast for his size, but Cam Newton ran a 4.59 at the combine.

I don't see someone running any faster than Cam in his videos.

Whether it is loose reporting, hyped timing or what not, HS 40 times have to be taken with a BIG grain of salt.

I also believe that a lot of these kids are faster in High School than they are over time in college due to normal physical maturation, they get a little bigger, maybe get a little tighter ...

I am glad you weren't born a PSU fan. At least we have 1 nose in the clouds fan.

Fair enough. Time aside, he is out running black de backs in these highlights. He can throw on run too. Keeps his eyes downfield even when he is getting pressured. Exciting stuff.

You'd like to see him get some opportunities - but I do see where those in support of a RS are coming from. If he is good enough to play, I think Pitt has established (even through Chryst's last year and Narduzzi first) of putting players who earn reps on the field. It will be interesting to see how differently this offense runs with Conner back but no Boyd - if the ground game is clicking (and I believe with the RBs and O-Line they have it will be) - the QB position may not have to do as much (which might be good given that #23 isn't there). I hope Peterman has a great season, but I am eager to see what Macvittie can do (even in a garbage time situation).

lol 4.5 is like the defacto time that everyone claims. The high school coach from my town was always saying "this guy runs a 4.5" in the papers, which caused a lot of snickering.
