MM used to have a Friday evening wrestling hour. I loved it! Then I grew up and started middle school and realized he was an asshole.
No kidding. But he still tried to play the wrestling villain while hosting a sports talk show and writing for newspapers. He was involved with wrestling.
I played in local Dek Hockey leagues in the late 80's, early 90's, and he was a big deal running the Penn Hills League. But when they first mentioned him and I saw him, I thought they called him "Madden" as a resemblance to John Madden the ex Raiders coach. (What did I know?)
The shame about him, when he is not doing his schtick or his personal vendetta's, he has a pretty solid, rational, "common sense" take on many things, outside of sports. But I ain't wading through all the BS to hear it.
He was in wrestling and had a National tv audience every Monday night. He Likes to remind his listeners how wrestling paid for his house. He made $5K per week in the 90’s. Pretty nice side gig. He wasn’t very good at it though IMO. Some people were made for radio. He’s one of them.If I remember, he had a thing against Willie Stargell too. He loved to say how much better Barry Bonds was then Roberto Clemente, just because Roberto was loved. It really is pathetic how long he has been pretending to be the professional wrestling heel, even though he wasn’t in professional wrestling.
I never liked how he calls out his contemporaries in the industry. Picking feuds and ripping guys like Cope, Savran and the guys he currently competes against isn’t cool. And it shows that his beloved mother didn’t raise him right. You can have a gimmick and still be professional. He’s 60 years old and still hasn’t figured things out.MM used to have a Friday evening wrestling hour. I loved it! Then I grew up and started middle school and realized he was an asshole.

And His shoes cost more than your house ! 🙄I said this before on (can't remember on here or the old scout board) but it bears repeating in a Madden thread. My brother in law went to Duquense and played in the intermural hockey league they had. My brother in law always says outside of few friends on his team, he cannot name one person from that league other than Mark Madden because he was that big of an A-H*le even back then. The moral of the story is that he really is that miserable and that much of an A=H*le. What you listen to is not a gimmick, that is why he can't change it. It is who he actually is. Recruits is probably very correct in why he got more miserable in the past year. When you sow nothing in terms of family or real friends, it tends to be very miserable.

I remember when he had a hard on for Stan . Shortly after , Stan at that point was let go by one of the local sports stations (not sure which one) and he gave a parting speech about how he was devoted to his profession and wished his listeners well . He actually , noticeably was choked up on the air ... It wasn't long after that Mark crowned him the Godfather of sports talk in Pgh. and has him on weekly for a segment .I never liked how he calls out his contemporaries in the industry. WCW . He was one of the ring side announcers for the show and would on occasion get his ass kicked ... For being the ass clown that he is ...He was involved with wrestling.
Obviously by my handle I'm a fan, why do non-fans feel the need to think it is somehow immature to still watch as an adult?
An old buddy of mine who's 4 years older than me actually wrestled Bill in H.S.I remember Fralic playing in the Penn Hills league one year. It wasn't pretty when he would "check" kids.
If they could recreate what the industry was from 1995-2005, I’d watch. But I don’t think they can or have come close.Obviously by my handle I'm a fan, why do non-fans feel the need to think it is somehow immature to still watch as an adult?
92 was my last year there. I moved out towards Moon and played in some leagues out that way, including McKees Rocks where they converted some warehouse to an official rink and played in a roller league.I played at Penn Hills from 92-98 or so (before moving to Murrysville). If I recall correctly, think I played in the "D" league. And again, if I recall correctly, there were different levels of "D," from true beginner, to teams with decent teams with some pretty good players. I think I played in all levels of D.
Nonetheless, what's the chance we played against each other?
What frustrates me is that he is a "badass" on the radio, but doesn't go to games nor the locker room to talk to the players. I would laugh my a$$ off if he met someone on the street.Saw this on Twitter: If it wasn’t Bradley, I wonder if someone within the Steelers organization fed him false information as retribution for him attacking some of their players this season. Food for thought...
What do you think a player would do if they met him in the street? What frustrates me is that he is a "badass" on the radio, but doesn't go to games nor the locker room to talk to the players. I would laugh my a$$ off if he met someone on the street.
My guess is laugh in his face. What do you think a player would do if they met him in the street?
That is probably the most that would happen. My guess is laugh in his face.
I would just want to see Madden put the tail between his legs and pretty much kiss his a$$. Trust me, after listening to the way he has gone after a few people (Emanuel Sanders) I think they would try and provoke him for more. What do you think a player would do if they met him in the street?
I heard that. So....someone either set up Madden to look like a fool OR.....Madden's growing vindictiveness towards the Steelers caused him to jump the gun and not vet the source. Not to break up the deck hockey memories but Kaboly went on the radio yesterday and said this story is false. He's one of the beat writers I was thinking would step up. Also interesting because Kaboly and Madden aren't enemies or anything. Will be interesting to see how MM reacts.

That's possible and again Madden's vindictiveness against the Steelers and his desire to piss off people may have got the best of him. Now in Madden's defense......the underlying premise in many of his rants though has merit. The Steelers are no longer this well oiled machine, the "Steeler Way" is either gone, or is outdated. But it seems now more like a Bengals organization than a champion organization. Everything they do, from players acting like jerks to coaching decisions to decisions on coaches, just alot of things. Even something simple as having the worst OL in the NFL and cutting Stefan Wisniewski only to have him start for the Chiefs in the AFC Champ game. Just so many poor choices. So many poor antics. The fact that you hear nothing about Lev Bell or AB now.Adam Crowely said there was confusion about how the exit interview was to happen. Watt thought it was to be Zoom and the staff thought it was in person. Maybe that's where his source got it?
I take him in the smallest dose -You have to take Madden in small doses.
As an actual writer, I think he's pretty good.

I don't mean to turn this thread some other direction, but I have been pretty vocal that the Steelers organization feels and acts different since Dan Rooney passed.
It is amazing how many dopes believe and like Madden.
Update: It has begun!I’m going to love watching the mental gymnastics he goes through to turn TJ Watt into a villain...

Jim Cornette is hardly a voice of reason.
It seems to work for him.Madden knows JuJu is on the way out and needed to pick his new target. He always goes after some of the most talented and most popular Steelers players.
