Toney gone...

This is all very depressing. Ever since the 2012 Malibu jacking things have fallen apart.:(

Agents get a commission, and AD's often turn to their own agent, who is usually someone they trust, for input in coaching searches. There is nothing unusual or unethical about that. Most ADs at schools like Pitt aren't the sole decision maker when it comes to hiring/firing coaches for the high profile sports. I would find very hard, to almost impossible to believe that Barnes was able to push Jamie out the door without some influential boosters signing off on it. And I have zero inside info, so I don't know if his departure was encouraged or if he just wanted a fresh start at his alma mater. And I'm quite certain Barnes would not have been in any position to nudge Jamie out the door if Jamie were still winning big and the fanbase was energized behind him.
Agents get a % of the contract. Is it impossible that Barnes got a kickback? Unlikely, but Stallings getting the job and not demanding buyout $$ from TCU is really bad.
As for big donors wanting to toss Dixon, they should be banned from the Pete. Kingmakers delivered a disaster.

I have no inside info, so I have absolutely no clue as to what actually happened or how things went down. I'm speculating, but perhaps if it truly was Dixon's decision, Pitt felt it was the right thing to do to let Jamie out of his contract without demanding buyout money as a way of saying thanks. I have no idea.

I'm not sure if big donors wanted Jamie out or not, but it was pretty clear they were content to let him walk, or let Barnes give him a nudge out the door.

He wants to win... so he quit. Will to win and quitting don't typically happen together.

Something else going on here.
I agree. And I don’t buy the excuse they gave for him not playing last Saturday now.I did initially, but not now.I also think this opting out and entering the portal crap has a lot to do with it.In the past if you wanted to leave a program for another you had to sit out a year and two years within the conference. They have made it way too easy today and this is the product of it.

Who’s on the short list for Head coach in 2022

WTF else was Capel going to do at this point, Mr. Know-It-All?? Do you watch this team? These 2 HAD TO GO. HAD TO GO. There was no other choice. Be thankful Capel stood up and asserted himself and finally realized the time had come to get players that wanted to be coached. The brother is going to turn the corner now. Mark my word.

2 months late. And are you sure these defections were Capel 's idea?
Maybe he ignored the crap in the locker room to concentrate on recruiting?

Take it with a grain of salt of course. But sharks are circling. Lots of back channeling going on at this point.
If we're now adding poaching to the political activism and the corruption in recruiting, I'm not sure that the sports purists will stick around and suffer the increasing soap opera story lines in D-1 college hoops. Then again, I don't understand how WWE fans exist. I guess some men do like soap operas.

"Just March away". I can see it coming.
