Anyone else going to Chapel Hill this weekend?

For those who've been and or live in the area, what are some things to do? I'm getting there Friday and leaving Sunday morning.

Also I'm guessing the game is still on and the interior of the state isnt getting devastated?

I have not heard anything about the game being canceled. Most of the heavy rain in interior of NC was in the Charlotte area, so the triangle should be pretty good.

In terms of what to do while you are there, this will vary some based on your age and interests, but here are a variety of suggestions:

1) If it’s a nice day, just take a long walk around campus. It is one of the prettiest campuses I have ever been to and on a mid-fall day it will be fantastic.

2) I’m assuming you know this, but Franklin St is the border between campus and town and is where most of the bars, restaurants and other shops are. If nothing else, it’s good people watching to just wander the strip on game day.

3) In terms of food, I’d strongly recommend checking out Mama Dips (www.mamadips.com) for really good, authentic Southern food. Other solid options are 411 West (https://www.411west.com/) for good (but not great) Italian and Bandidos (Mexican, if you want something less fancy).

4) In terms of bars, I recommend Carolina Brewery and Top of the Hill. Both are microbreweries with solid beer offerings and good food. Linda’s is a dive bar/biker bar that is worth checking out if that’s your speed (get the cheese fries!). And of course He’s Not Here is the most famous of Chapel Hill bars. All of these are on Franklin Street. I’ve not been (and I think it skews younger) but Sup Dogs is also apparently a good time.

5) Since I know how much you Pitt folks love the fine arts (sorry, couldn’t resist the “Opera must be in town” joke), the on campus art museum (https://ackland.org/) usually has some pretty cool exhibits.

Have a great trip and let me know if you have other questions.

Where to park? Thanks

If you are planning on going out on Franklin St after the game, you might want to park in town (rather than on campus). I haven't tried that in a number of years, but here are some info on lots

If you aren't staying in town, you might want to consider one of the park and ride lots (which are farther out, but will mean getting out of town is easier).

Duke is not far at all from UNC(15-20 minute drive). Highly recommend making the drive if you have never been. Cameron indoor is open to the public for you to take a tour as long as there is no practice. Also Duke gardens are very nice to walk around. The campus is very nice as well. Definitely worth taking the time if you haven't been.

Downtown Raleigh is also a very nice scene with good brewery's and BBQ. Not far from UNC(20min). Will be there on Saturday!

If you can get into Hops Burger Bar on Franklin Street, I'd highly recommend it. Folks will tell you Al's is a better burger option, but they're nuts. Hops is the most Pittsburgh-like burger in NC (comparable to Tessaros and Burgatory).
