Holstein is going to be tampered with by the SEC schools (and probably Michigan and OSU) like you wouldn’t believe. He grew up there, went to Bama, etc. It’s going to be a bumpy few years on that front.
I would say chances of Eli playing at Pitt next year are <10%. I guess enjoy this year.Holstein is going to be tampered with by the SEC schools (and probably Michigan and OSU) like you wouldn’t believe. He grew up there, went to Bama, etc. It’s going to be a bumpy few years on that front.
Holstein won't be here next year. Get used to it with schools with lots of money being thrown around and buying their rosters. This is the gutter football that college football has turned into.
I am skeptical Pitt can match an offer that high.I believe Pitt will match whatever offer is out there up to $2 million or $3 million and I cant a P2 offering more than that.
so then we go recruit and poach bama or Ohio State's 3rd string qb and do this all over again. or maybe one of our younger guys are ready to play.I would say chances of Eli playing at Pitt next year are <10%. I guess enjoy this year.
Didnt see your other post, but NIL isn't going anywhere. The courts have ruled. It's illegal to not allow it.I believe Pitt will match whatever offer is out there up to $2 million or $3 million and I cant a P2 offering more than that. This is, of course, if pay for play NIL is still allowed next year. Read my other post. Not sure when that goes into effect. If he cant be paid with a pay for play booster NIL, he would be paid directly through Pitt and the schools have a salary cap in what they can pay. Would he transfer to LSU because he feels he can make more in legitimate NIL money from Baton Rouge dentists, attorneys, and restaurants? I guess, maybe, but even the QB at LSU has very little value to these businesses.
He needs to change it to one slice. One bite always turns into 4 or 5.“One bite. Everybody knows the rules.”

Guess what happens the first time one of those gets denied lol?You are an NIL lobbyist. House settlement is final. All deals greater than $600 have to be reported to a 3rd party panel to determine if they are fair market value. And dont say fair market value is worth what someone is willing to pay. Yes....TO PLAY. The fair market value for a player to market your business is easily determined by sports marketing professionals, who I am sure will be on the panel. They know how much NBA, MLB, and NFL NIL deals are worth. College athletes are worth a fraction of that. They arent marketable.
Guess what happens the first time one of those gets denied lol?
Did the players agree to this? You know, the ones who might be harmed by it?Yea, they go to court. But, remember, these are supposed to be marketing deals. I could actually see the NCAA winning because this is part of an agreed upon settlement where the players will be paid directly with a salary cap but cant accept pay for play NIL deals without losing eligibility

So Grant House speaks for all current and future players? Hint, the answer is no. The first time something gets rejected, it's going straight to court for another NCAA L. Unless players become employees, unionize, and sign a CBA, nothing will ever stick.Yes. Grant House is the one suing the NCAA on behalf of the players so he and his legal team think this is the right settlement.
Two things: 1) I wonder where Marion is going to be coaching next year? It doesn’t sound like his HC is happy with him.Lol. Apparently the QB’s dad said Marion promised them $100k and when they wanted paid the HC said Go-Go doesn’t have authority to make that offer. Of course Narduzzi isn’t going to miss a chance to take a shot…

Well he does speak for all current players -- he is the class representative. Those current players are going to get a letter in the mail giving them a chance to "opt out" if they don't like the deal. If they don't opt out, then they are bound by the settlement. A quick google search says the average rate of opt outs in class action litigation is 2.9%.So Grant House speaks for all current and future players? Hint, the answer is no. This can’t be good for the future of coach Marion.
They can agree on anything, it doesn't make it legal. The NCAA had an agreement with athletes that to be eligible he/she had to maintain amateur status. Look what happened as soon as it was challenged.Well he does speak for all current players -- he is the class representative. An individual that opts out is going to have a very hard time negotiating a different deal for himself or herself. NCAA won't budge.
I don't understand how people think this stuff is a gotcha. People were doing this same stuff with the Pickett situation when Wilson was signed. Of course the leaks coming out of one side were members of the Steelers organization, of course the leaks coming out on the other side were coming from Pickett, his agent, or his family.
You linked his tweet as a 24/7 analyst. Which he is, but he also has a business relationship with Marion. That is quite a bit different than reporting from a “source”.I don't understand how people think this stuff is a gotcha. Of course the source for a college football reporter was going to be one of the UNLV college football coaches, who was it going to be...the janitor at the local 7/11 that happens to also be a notary? All that does is narrow it down from three possibilities to one.
Wait until you hear this wild conspiracy theory I've been cooking up. I think that all of the information coming out saying the opposite were from Sluka's father, brother, and the agent directly involved in this situation who didn't even bother to spend the $500 to get licensed in Nevada during the 8 months after his client moved there.
You say potato, I say all "recruiting analyst-types" have a business relationship (albeit informal) with the coaches that will speak to them and will without question tweet out their report based on a "source" if it's someone on the coaching staff because it's in their financial interest to do so.You linked his tweet as a 24/7 analyst. This Hajj dude looks pretty damn good. He's throwing lasers. How did he even win the job is the real question?
The new QB is so much better.
They saved themselves $100k. They have an actual passing threat now. This Hajj dude looks pretty damn good. He's throwing lasers.
$97k...They saved themselves $100k. They have an actual passing threat now.
Well at least every party comes out ahead. UNLV still has a good QB and now Sluka's agent is free to sign one of those $500k B1G or SEC offers he bragged about...as long as he deems it necessary to register with the new state or school at any point in time.I counted the interest lol.
Sluka and Williams were both brought in as transfers and expected to have an equal chance to win the job in the Spring. According to the local beat writers Williams was more talented but Sluka had much more experience. Given that this was a team that was equipped to win now the coaching staff felt more comfortable going with the veteran QB.How did he even win the job is the real question?

I agree. It will be so much more important this year knowing that the winner might have a spot in the playoffs.UNLV v Boise State is going to be fun
Here my internal fairy tale about the ordeal considering the kid's dad said they had the agent since December 2023 when they started shopping for transfers. I was on the fence until its come out that the agent wasn't registered in the state or with the school and hadn't contacted the NIL collective until 8 months after the supposed agreement was made. Also that the Pres. of the collective made clear that he has those introductory emails. My first impression was that this was a kid who thought he could leverage more money since the team was doing so well. I had very little sympathy for him.
Then, pieces of the story started to come out. Here's what I think happened:
The kid enters the portal hoping to make some money his senior year and to play at a higher level. Coach Marion tells him, " Hey, shut down all those other offers. I can get you at least $100,000 at UNLV. Kid says, "Cool. I'm in."
Kid gets to UNLV. They give him 3 grand, which might be a living expense they give to all their guys. Sluka, aka the kid, starts asking Marion when he's going to start getting his cash. Marion tells him something like "We're working on it. These things take time. "
Kid either gets or already has a half-a$$ed agent. The agent gets virtually nothing.
It dawns on the kid that they're not going to pay him, and if he plays another game, he'll be stuck there because he uses up his eligibility this year.
The kid is rightly pissed and feels used. He thinks his best option may be just to declare he's taking a redshirt year. Whether he gives the coach a big F U on his way out the door is unknown, but I wouldn't blame him.
Who knows if any of the other schools offered him money when he was in the portal. Either way he was swindled by his coach: never a good way to retain a harmonious working relationship.
Now, I don't blame the kid a bit.
A word of advice to the Sluka family. Never hire an agent who's doesn't know he has to register in the state where he's working.
I agree. It will be so much more important this year knowing that the winner might have a spot in the playoffs.
That's a pretty sure bet.Thought I had to today:
Based on how they are both playing, there is a non-0 chance that Army-Navy is for a playoff spot.
