Maybe he promised the kid that if he won that spot rather than compete for it he would get the money. Plus, if there is no QB, the offense stinks and there is no offer of a HC job, so he stretches the truth to make his own opportunity, and we know he is in a hurry. Finally we already know the assistant coach is out for one person only, screw the programs/coaches that hire him, his career supersedes it all.The one thing that I don't believe is that an assistant coach that is set up to start interviewing for low P4/high G5 HC positions in the next year or two is going to outright promise a kid/agent six-figures just to compete for the starting QB job at a school that definitely doesn't have those resources.
