Urban Knew

Anyone who is surprised that Urb got a slap on the wrist has not been following Big Time football. They are not paying the man over $6MM a year to be the spiritual leader and enforcement officer. Hes there to win games.

Then he needs to stop portraying himself as this saint that holds himself and his team to the highest standard, that's how he presents himself! He is and was and will always be a sleeze, and a fake , as long as we got that straight then I agree with you.

I am confused on this one. Shouldn’t domestic abuse be an issue between the couple and the legal system?

Also, their job is to teach a sport, not bible school.
I totally agree, I don't even think the abuser should lose his or her job, let the state punish them, it's not employers jobs to punish people. People losing jobs on top of the state punishment is just piling on! What if a domestic abuser owed child support to the abused party? Do you think that person losing their job makes things better or worse?

No he doesn't, it's not about what you really do, it's marketing so that you're team lures the best players to WIN.

Pitt needs to learn a lesson from this and quit being Goody 2 Shoes Morality State U and put WINNING FIRST! In this case the coach didn't even commit the crime, to me, 3 games is more harsh than what I'd want to give.

But it does accomplish their goal. A three game handslap does not hurt the team but does does give the perception that they took action on this.

Exactly, Pitt needs to learn how to stage hand slaps for public consumption and act like they care, but keep WINNING FIRST.

The problem with your thinking, beyond the total lack of morality, is you have it backwards. Giant, wealthy football programs don't win football games because they look the other way at ethical issues. They look the other way at ethical issues because they're giant, wealthy football programs.

We're actually fairly schizophrenic about such things. Seem to take wild swings from lax to harsh.

Tyler Boyd got 1 game for an offense with an intoxicating substance.

Yet Whitehead got 3, including missing a marquee game, for a similar thing (never publicized but most assumed it was weed).

While Bookser got only one for something that seemed really much more serious.

Point being, who knows from one day to the next how Pitt will treat a similar situation involving an offending player.

You'll never be big time with an attitude like that. Pitt will always be small time. Go ahead, punish a kid for smoking weed, like half the other students do every day, then brag about winning the big physics award with the star physics student back at his dorm room firing up a bong hit! LOL

So tOSU and Penn State have a "total lack of morality" and what does it get them, other than respect, money, titles and national acclaim! LOL

Pitt being "moral" gets them nothing, gets them people laughing at them saying THEY SUCK.

If Pitt broke the law and cheated and lied and stole and won a National Championship they'd be worshipped beyond high heaven, they'd finally get respect.

You asked what Meyer should have done. Fire Zach Smith.
so Mrs. Smith now then would live with an unemployed abuser now with the reasoning of his unemployment in his mind being her not brought to any legal authority allegations?
Like I said, if was to about the well-being of this lass, which is what this #MeToo deal is supposed to be about, Meyer firing the guy at that time based on hearsay would have made it worse on her not better..As the shotgun wielding house watcher in Fletch so eloquently put it, "its for the cops"....

It's piling on! It's possible that firing the abuser from his job, makes life worse for the abused.

What if the abuser owes the abused child support? Or they decide to stay together and work it out, yeah, eliminating the job really helps the situation.

Ray Rice lost his NFL career 3-4 years ago over one night getting caught on video hitting his wife, who he's STILL WITH, so Ray Rice being blackballed from the NFL forever HURT THE ABUSED as much as the abuser, since she stayed with him, SHE was punished by her household missing out on millions of dollars.... LOL!

It is funny though. I have to LAUGH! They sure stood up FOR HER! yeah right! #NOTME

I am fine with people smoking weed. That's not what happened in this case at OSU.

Cheating might help at the margins, but OSU gets 100,000 odd fans into the stands and spend tens of millions more dollars than Pitt on football. Of course they win more games. They have the big money infrastructure, facilities, and coaching staff in place to attract some of the best players in the country year in and year out.

Not punishing bad behavior is the result of that too big to fail level money. If Urban Meyer's buyout was significantly less than 38 million, they have possibly would have fired him. They decided to take their lumps with the public instead. Other very good and even great coaches would want the job -- it's an easy place to win at. The fact is we'd consider firing a coach involved in something like this because their buyout would be much much smaller.

You still have the whole thinking on it backwards. They are too big to fail for their university and state, which is why they let bad things happen.

Frustrating thing is these administrators are paid very big money to theoretically make the tough decisions. They almost always make the easy one.

100% TRUTH!

I used to be frustrated as well that Pitt didn't cheat (aka payola to players) to be more competitive in recruiting. Then I realized that we could not keep up. If we began to slip 5 star guys $50k to commit the blue bloods would just amp it higher. It is an arms race and we are the 80s USSR. We'd eventually implode.

However i still think our policies on player discipline, while occasionally bafflingly lax (Bookser getting hardly any for a really awful offense, which apparently wasn't his first, either), are more often self defeating in their harshness. Whitehead last year, Durand Johnson a couple years back, whatever it was that led Paul Chryst to suspend 10 guys or whatever for the YSU (resulting in our worst loss ever). Pitt is usually way over the top and it gains us nothing.
