1) Pitt wins National Championship in football or

2) Pirates win the World Series?

They both are very cheap and winning doesn't matter , so with all that being said , Pirates have had more success over the past 30 years , which isn't much, but still go with the Pirates

Winning the national championship in college football is an impossibility for every program outside of about 10 to 12 schools. there is a 98% likelihood that one of six schools are going to win itI.

can't see at all it ever being in this position and I'm OK with it.

With the playoiffs, if Pitt were to go undefeated, they would be in the playoffs.

As such I would say Pitt winning the national championship as Nutting will NEVER spend the money to win it all. Playoff team yes, WS team LOL no

Steelers and Penguins will win 4 between them before PIRATES or PITT win one, maybe more than four come to think of it.

C. Neither will happen in our lifetimes.

Even if Pitt wasn't cheap the chances of winning a NC are 1 in a million for a program like Pitt. But its not just Pitt in the last 20 years the NC winner has been a southern school or OSU(twice) No one else has won from north of the carolina's. There just isn't enough talent in the North anymore. OSU is in the best football state in the north and they pretty much get to pick which recruits they want. PSU, OSU, MI etc etc all pick up kids out of PA and the talent in PA isn't as good as OH anymore.

The Pirates will never win because of ownership and a system which is setup for the big money clubs to win. Remember there are 32 teams so even a average club would only win once every 32 years. Add in the payroll disparity and lack of commitment and the pirates will be lucky to make the playoff's more than 2 or 3 times a decade.

Explain Kansas City and Cleveland , winning it , or being very good more so than not

For a kansas city, cleveland or pittsburgh type market to win the world series requires them to do a much better job than someone in NY,Boston, LA etc etc. Doesn't make it impossible obviously but it makes it much harder. The fact that the Pirates will never stop doing business on the cheap just about rules them out unless they get extremely luck or they hire a GM that is a genius.

Lol --- Darin' to Dream here on this thread.

Michigan State made first the Playoffs with a solid D, and a solid, albeit not amazing QB in Connor Cook (one year after Narduzzi).

Pitt just needs to keep recruiting with a Stable Coaching Staff, and for one of these young QB's (MacVittie , Pickett , or Nick Patti) to be the 'Real Deal'. Then there's no reason Pitt is not at the top of the ACC with Miami, VT, then Clemson and FSU, and fighting for a Playoff spot in a few seasons.

Slim margin. But i think it would be the Pirates. It's not the same as the NFL but at least the worst teams in baseball are also given top draft picks. After a number of really bad seasons in a row, which appear likely again now for several years, if they drafted semi well, there's a chance a good number of those good young players could briefly be on the Pirates together, until they're lost to free agency. If the Pirates get lucky again with scrap heap pickupsb that work out to supplement the gaps, like with some of their pitchers in the two playoff years, it's kind of possible.

Pitt is in a system where winners are rewarded and losers punished. No compensatory high draft picks for the bad teams in college. Just lower and lower revenues and tougher and tougher recruiting. So i really don't see it ever happening in the current system.

Given that the Pirates had the second best record in baseball just 2 seasons ago, and that KC won 2 years ago & Cleveland nearly did last year, the Pirates are the choice, but they'll need to seize the day the next time opportunity knocks. Hey, who knows, maybe Nutting unexpectedly sells the team soon & new ownership comes in who has a stronger commitment.
