really is at strength wise at this moment is best figured by:
(1) Tossing out the Virginia score—1st game of season under new offensive coordinator and playing a team with a lot more returning starters. Playing a lot better since then.
(2) Tossing out the Delaware score for reason of so many starters held out. Game was total aberration.
And, if you are only considering the PSU, UCF and Duke game scores—
Then, Pitt would be Sagarin computer ranked around # 20 nationally with a Sagarin rating number at least in the low to mid 80s vs the 72-ish number because the Virginia and Delaware games and to a less extent the Ohio game skew the numbers.
Don’t get me wrong on this. I am not arguing that we deserve to be ranked higher by the computer or other system based on our overall 4-2 body of work. But, I am arguing that we are currently able to play as if we are actually a top 20 team when healthy.
To wit—vs PSU we played like the current Sagarin # 12-13; vs UCF like the Sagarin # 22 and vs Duke like the Sagarin # 23 despite all the mental mistakes made in those games.
