Women Lose to Florida St.

Being down 42-19 at the half, I thought we were on
our way to another 30 pt or more thrashing. We
suddenly came to life scoring 29 in the 3rd Qtr and
closed the gap to 5 pts. That was easily some of the
best bball I've seen from our players. FSU regained
their composure and closed it out 76-60,

The impoertant thing is we fought hard, got back in
it and looked good doing it. OK, here goes my usual
take. A/TO ratio that I'm always going on about......a
much improved 14/14. Not perfect, but way better!
Of course FSU was 12/9....that's what good teams do.
Marley W, who I'm always criticizing looked so much
better. She only scored 6 pts (as expected), BUT here's
the kicker. She had 8 assists and 3 TO's. That A/TO
ratio was her best in months. If she can do that
against a quicker (very quick) FSU team she should
be able to do it more often against other teams. I
hope she keeps it up.

FSU is good 40+ % on Fg's, 40+% on 3's and 90+%
Ft's. Throw in the A/TO ratio, and their 12 steals and
you're looking at a good, athletic, and quick team.
We had a great 3rd Qtr, and so-so rest of the game.
Yet with that being said, there was a lot to like.

—Weird game when you score 8 points in the 1st Q and 29 points in the 3rd…. Unfortunately the 8-point neighborhood is much more typical for this team…

—Nice to see Battle get involved a little bit. She shot 3 for 5 and played 19 minutes. Pitt really needs her to become a contributor.

—Tough to get assists when your teammates miss so many shots, including lay-ups…

—I’m glad to see Coach Verdi continue to play Malcolm through her struggles. She does have some skills. Not that Coach Verdi has any other real options.

—Hope Pitt finds a way to keep Liatu for another season. Other teams have to be licking their chops to add her.

One of the coaches said King can return.

Much as I’d like to see her return, I’d also like to see her get a chance to play on a good team.
