Did you actually read the article? Because the writer is not suggesting that there is some effort to exclude Black players. Rather, she is trying to explain how a nation that was 1/3 Black in 1800 has come to be, as you said, almost all white. Nothing nefarious here, just an attempt to explain demographics. Do you disagree with any of her analysis?

I cant read the article but I'm not a subscriber. Wiki says the "African" population is 2%.....but perhaps the point of the article is that there is a nefarious reason its that low. Probably not a great idea for an article but personally, I love learning about history, demographics, etc. For example, I googled that MacAllister dude from Argentina because I'm thinking "huh?" Also, I always wondered why so many Argentinians had Italian last names. 2 million Italians immigrated to Argentina between 1870 and 1940 for many of the same reasons that Europeans immigrated to the US. You dont see that in other South American countries.

France doesn't keep official count of ethnicities so those are just guesses. They do have sizeable populations of North African and sub-Saharan African heritage.

To sum up the article, Argentina used to have a much higher percentage of Africans decedents (1700s and 1800s), but millions of white Europeans were encouraged by the government to immigrate into Argentina (late 1800s and early 1900s) and also those who were of clear African decent were likely exposed to some form of systematic racism (50-100+ years ago). So it seems like the brought in many millions of white people, while the clear black population got smaller and smaller, especially since people were blending. Seems like more a true melting pot.

I was going to say that it looks like the first two will be at 8PM our time, but the third game will be at 2AM eastern. But then it struck me. They are on daylight savings time now. And when the world cup comes around they won't be but we will be. So I think that means that the first two games start at 9PM our time and the 3rd at 3AM.

Honestly I do love not changing the times. It really only effects live broadcasts of anything. Oddly the late night talk shows like Colbert and Fallon and Kimmel start at 1030 here instead of 1130. The news all starts at 10 pm.

However you get a live show like Saturday Night Live it is at 830 pm from when clocks Spring forward until beginning of November and then its at 930 after that since it is live.

For the most part they were all African countries. I know this has often been a criticism of French football, but I’ve never really cared enough to read up on it. In this case, I’m pretty sure many of the players were born in France so why should it matter? They could do the same thing with our US basketball team. We all came from somewhere. But with France maybe there’s something deeper going on that I’m not aware of.

Something deeper? France probably has the largest population of people of sub-Saharan African origin in Europe. They also probably have the largest North African population in Europe. Almost all of the French players were born in France. Kylian Mbappe, for example, was born in France but his dad is from Cameroon. Their players are all legitimate French citizens. Now, one could ask why ethnic French players have such a difficult time making the France national team but I think a lot of that comes down to social class and culture. The ethnic African players come from the lower class of French culture, by and large, and they see soccer as their way out, similar to basketball in the US.
