1889 was the beginning of what we now know as Pitt Panthers Football! I'm mainly typing this up due to extreme boredom, but figured it'd be kind of interesting to share. Between 1889 and 1907, the Panthers posted a total record of 73-64-4 (.517%) and played a total of 141 games. 1889's inaugural and only game in that humble beginning was a lone loss to Shadyside Academy. Pitt (aka WUP) had some great seasons; quite specifically 1904 when the program had their first ever undefeated season going a perfect 10-0-0 under head coach Arthur Mosse, outscoring their opponents 406-5! 1905 was another great year for the Panthers with an 11-2-0 record also under Mosse. Here are the Records between 1889 and 1907:

I will start off by saying I was very happy when Capel was hired. That didn’t last long. There were so many things about him as a coach that I began to dislike. Yes I wanted him fired last year.

But something clicked. It isn’t that we are running different offensive sets which we are, or we have a true point guard, or we can shoot, or many other things.

The biggest difference in Capel is he has created a team with great chemistry. That was what got him fired at Oklahoma and plagued him basically every year at Pitt. But something he is doing this season is different and the players are for the first time enjoying watching each other succeed. That’s quite a coaching accomplishment.

In closing my favorite quote from the Howland and Dixon era was “We All We Got”. I think this team is developing that mindset. Right now I am happy with Capel as our coach. Now he just needs to maintain this chemistry.

He missed the last game and had surgery. Skipping. Was he going to play on crutches?

Pitt linebacker commit Jordan Bass will be playing in the state semifinals on Saturday, and Pat Narduzzi and linebackers coach Ryan Manalac are planning to be in attendance.

Since it's a contact period, which means in-person contact is permitted off-campus, Narduzzi and Manalac are also going to spend some time with Bass and his family at their home after the game.

Bass is a big piece of Pitt's recruiting class and a clear priority for Narduzzi and company.
