Pitt called Poverty Program today by

Mike Farrell on ESPNU radio. The show was talking about some of the SEC issues such as FLA coach future buyout issues, Ole Miss trying to retain Kiffin and Tennessee taxing ticket holders for next season. Talked about how athletic depts should have been saving all the $ they made the past decade or two so could better handle NIL and soon revenue sharing versus leaning on boosters. Rick Neuheisel mentioned Heather getting fired due to lack of fundraising and that’s when Farrell called us a poverty program. Tried to take a little step back and say at least when compared to Tennessee. Mentioned we play in an NFL stadium w/poor attendance that leads to other deficits like low concessions, etc. Dude sounded like a dick most of the interview. He even mentioned tongue in cheek that most fan bases hate him.

The Morning Pitt: 9/19/2024 - Is Pitt in a perfect spot right now?

With momentum, improvement and a big stretch of the schedule coming up, Pitt just might be in the exact perfect spot right now. We're talking about how the season is shaping up for the Panthers on today's Morning Pitt.

OT: Clemson NIL & Portal Strategy and Results

Clemson appears to be the only P4 program actively rejecting the transfer portal as a means to acquire talent, with only 2 total portal additions in that past 4 years (Hunter Johnson in 2022 and Paul Tyson in 2023, both QBs).

They’re losing ~10 guys per season to the Portal and are just using bigger recruiting classes (very highly ranked) and walk-ons to fill out the roster.

“We like the guys we’ve got.” is Dabo’s response to questions about why they’re not more active in the Portal.

Clemson is very active in NIL and is choosing to spend it on retaining the players they like (see article below).

Q1. Can this work for Clemson?
Q2. Do we think Duzz would adopt this approach if Pitt’s recruiting was Top 20?

Video and transcript: Narduzzi on Youngstown State, the portal and more

Pat Narduzzi held his final press briefing of the week on Thursday and talked about Youngstown State, the transfer portal and a lot more. Here's video and a full rundown of what he said.

OT: Vols cleaning up in the Tarheel State

David Sanders Jr. committed today, five star OT from Providence Day in Charlotte. A couple of weeks ago they landed 5 star QB 2026 Greensboro, N.C., quarterback Faizon Brandon. He is the number one player in the class of 26. UNC isn’t in the running for a good portion of the top players in North Carolina right now. NC State is making the final list for most of them, but Tennessee is going back to the old days where they came in the North Carolina and took whoever they wanted.

Injury Updates

With Pitt going Buy Game (YSU) then Bye Week, a lot of emphasis has been made on “getting healthy” before UNC. However I haven’t seen much on who is actually hurt and to what extent. Here’s what we know:

Des Reid: Banged up vs WVU. Played 3-4 plays in 4Q
Juelz Goff: Cast on his arm
Ryan Jacoby: Missed Cincy, left WVU (2H)
Sean Fitzsimmons: Permanently in street clothes
Anthony Johnson: Listed as OR but hasn’t played since Kent

Who am I missing? And have we heard any updates on the guys above?
