Penn State Post Game Comments

Focus on Schumacher-Cawley's comments (rather than the 2 athletes with her). She was highly complementary of Pitt, the atmosphere at the Pete, and especially the talent of Babcock and Stafford. Finally....she was clearly proud of the visibility this brought to both schools and the game of volleyball. I think it would be fantastic if both schools meet again in the tournament this year.

Skill Positions vs Trenches

Through 3 games, there is a wide disparity between our skill guys, and the guys in the trenches.

QB - Good and on track to be great
RB - Dynamic, game changing
TE - One superb blocker, one above average pass catcher
WRs - Good all around, nothing great but more than enough in a good scheme
CBs - Have been great regardless of what anyone says, no QB being over 300 yards yet despite 4 seconds in the pocket is insane (yes I know teams had leads and ran the ball)
Safeties - very solid
LBs - Play has been average, slightly above and should improve throughout

Pass protection and the pass rush have been terrible

anybody else very happy with the skill guys? How much do we think the lines can improve this season? Overall feelings?

Video: Holstein on comebacks, motivation, improvement and more - great stuff here

Pitt quarterback Eli Holstein met the media on Wednesday and talked about the Panthers' comeback victories, his motivation and where he thinks he needs to get better.

Reid Usage

11 carries, 4 receptions, 0 special teams touches.

Desmond Reid’s usage was reduced dramatically vs. WVU and some folks seem to want the 5’8”, 175 lb Junior to not play or even practice for the next 2 weeks.

If he’s hurt, then I would agree but what if he’s healthy and wants to play vs. Youngstown St.?

Without Reid, Holstein appears to be running more himself and the results have been good, but do we want Eli running 7-10 times per game?

Do we want to restrict a healthy Reid’s usage during ACC play to 15 touches and zero special teams? 20 touches?

OT: Adrian Wojnarowski to St. Bonaventure

This is a real power move. If you have a couple of alums willing to pony up the $$ and someone like this who brings name cache, you can really up your profile in basketball quite quickly. Give it 1-2 years and I think you could have the Bonnies being at least as dangerous as Duquesne is.

The great thing

About being 3-0 with YSU up next is that it's followed by a bye week. I would play Holstein for only a half then give Yarnell the remaining time. The second half allows Holstein to get much needed time to rest and a chance to see things differently. The bye week gives him a chance to watch a ton of film and allows everyone time to correct any mistakes before entering the ACC schedule with a possible 4-0 record. Holstein will have a lot of film to review and the offensive line will get a chance to correct and make the adjustments needed. It give Fitzsimmons two more weeks of healing and hopefully he'll be ready to go. The blessing in all of this is that we are 4-0 which is better than most thought and our confidence level will be off the charts.
