Bulletin Board Material From A Cal Beat Writer

After going on and on for 4 pages about Pitt's offensive weapons he says this in his conclusion
"I haven’t been terribly impressed with their lines, and their secondary is prone to giving up explosive plays on busted coverages. Cal is done with the most daunting part of their schedule, and I feel like Cal will have the talent advantage the rest of the way through. Pitt may be ranked and undefeated, but I would be shocked if Cal did not have a big bounce-back game here. Other than a complete mental failure by the Cal team, I struggle to see what could go wrong for Cal here. I might end up regretting these statements, but this is just what I see.

Go Bears."

Somebody get this down to Duzz for a little last minute motivation.

Guess the first touchdown: Pitt-Cal

Nobody called a Censere Lee 7-yard catch as Pitt's first touchdown at North Carolina, so the contest rolls on. Can you correctly predict the player, play (run, reception, return, etc.) and yardage of Pitt's first touchdown against Cal? Post your guess in this thread, and if you're the first person to get it right, you'll win four months added to your subscription.

Good luck.

Duzz seems pretty confident Bell and Eli will be back

Says Pitt will take care of Eli

Question about Pitt and Eli after the season

Quick question for anyone that might have a thought, if Eli manages to take Pitt to the playoffs or even a 9-3, 10-2 record and a very nice bowl - he is obviously going to be in high demand after the season ends.

Will Pitt be able to keep him? They couldn't keep Addison but Eli looks like a potential franchise NFL quarterback down the road. He is that good. Pitt has to be able to come up with the $ needed to keep him for next season right? I just worry that a few of these schools with unlimited $ so to speak will be able to poach him away.

Predictions for Cal

So Pitt has a chance to start 6-0...which is, well crazy! They come into this game currently a 3.5 point favorite and really I think that's too small.

I feel really good about Pitt going into this game. I feel like Cal is a little overrated because they went to Auburn and beat a really bad Auburn team. They also beat a bad SDSU team and UC Davis and lost to a horrible FSU team. They should have beat Miami, and while they lost in heartbreaking fashion, they still gave up 39 points.

I think Pitt's offense keeps rolling along, Eli has another 300+ yard game and runs for 50+ along with 4 total TDs. Reid has another game with 150+ all purpose yards and 1 TD. I think Kenny Johnson and Mumpfield each have a TD. I think Cal has a solid defense, but I think it has become slightly overrated.

I do think Ott will get his, he is by far Cal's best offensive player. But also, like against UNC, I think Pitt will get stops when it really matters. I think the D does cause a TO or two as well.

I say Pitt 38 Cal 24

Old timers comparison Zeke Gadson and Kyle Louis

Just watched the UNC Field Pass (which shows highlights from field level..go figure).
Louis is a ball hawk. He’s got great lateral movement, a great speed burst and avoids blockers extremely well. He brings back memories of one of Pitt’s most underrated players…Zeke Gadson.
So I looked at the size of these two guys.
Gadson was 6’ 205 lbs
Louis is listed as 6’ 225
I would love to see side by side highlight reels of these 2.
Beat Cal.

Ranking the ACC and this week's game picks

This was a fun exercise last week, so let's do it again. Here's my ranking of the ACC teams heading into the weekend.

Last week's ranking in parentheses.

1. Miami (1)
2. Clemson (2)
3. Pitt (3)
4. SMU (8)
5. Louisville (4)
6. Virginia (11)
7. Georgia Tech (7)
8. Syracuse (10)
9. Duke (5)
10. Boston College (6)
11. Cal (9)
12. Virginia Tech (15)
13. Stanford (12)
14. North Carolina (13)
15. N.C. State (14)
16. Wake Forest (16)
17. Florida State (17)

Obviously the big jumps were SMU going from 8 to 4 and Virginia going from 11 to 6. Meanwhile, Duke and Boston College tumbled a bit after their losses.

I did terrible at picking games in the ACC last week, so let's do it again.

These picks are all against the spread.

No. 10 Clemson (-20.5) at Wake Forest
Georgia Tech (-4)
at North Carolina
Stanford at No. 11 Notre Dame (-22.5)
Cal at No. 22 Pitt (-3)
Louisville (-7.5)
at Virginia
Syracuse (-3) at N.C. State

I picked these games on the Morning Pitt Mailbag, so I think this is what I said. The one I can't remember for certain is the Louisville-Virginia game. I think Louisville should cover that, but I also think Virginia might be a little better than we thought. I don't think the Cavs will win, but they might keep it closer than a touchdown. I'm not sure about that one.

I think the others are definite locks, though, so place your bets accordingly.

Let's hear your rankings and game picks.

Thoughts From the Desert 🌵🏈

1. Nice to finally get the monkey off Pitt’s proverbial back down in Chapel Hill. Who else was waiting for some Tar Hell Gremlins to appear? Fortunately Eli and co stomped them out.
2. Speaking of Eli. Has Pitt had a QB with these physical tools since Hot Rod Rutherford? He’s also unflappable and very, very poised. We got a good one in the portal. Kudos to A412 for this one.
3. Nice to see Fitz out there. Kid is a wrecking ball of chaos when healthy. The rest of the DL? I’lll stay positive and just say Brewu needs to play more and it’s pretty alarming that our best DL are true Freshman.
4. Despite the narrative to the contrary Hayes and Sam O are missed. Zero playmaking from the DE’s and they were pretty much manhandled for much of the game.
5. Man is Kyle Louis a stud!
6. D bent but didn’t break and that 4th and 1 late was absolutely crucial.
7. Our favorite whipping boy Collier wasn’t too shabby yesterday either.
8. Let me keep saying it over and over. Kudos to Progressive Pat for killing off Prehistoric Pat and bringing ion Kade Bell. Man what a hire 🔥
9. I think 7 and 3 play on Sundays. Prototypes for the Duzz D which makes it all the more baffling that more local kids don’t stay home and play in Pat’s system.
10. Cal is dangerous. I was hoping they would have won last night and came into AreYinzSure next week flat but they’ve gotta be seething mad about the blatant ACC bias to keep Miami undefeated. I mean if that’s not Targeting late in that game what is? Wow 😮 PS Can ESPN PLEASE stop showing Michael Irvin writhing on the ground after every, single Miami play? SMH🤦🏽‍♂️
