OT: Penn State suffering from (runway) size anxiety

I'm not a flight expert, so I don't know what FAA regulations are in play here. Apparently because of the shorter length of the runways at the State College airport compared to international airports; the largest plane Penn State is able to charter from the airport does not have the fuel capacity to fly to Los Angeles as a direct flight. Because of this, to take a direct flight to LA for this weekend's game at USC; Penn State is taking a bus to and flying out of the Harrisburg airport. Yet another benefit and joy of coast-to-coast conference expansion.

James Franklin is calling to have the State College Airport's runways extended so this won't be an issue in the future; so, I'm sure Penn State donors will throw enough money at the problem that the State College airport will be bigger than Pittsburgh International within 10 years.

James Franklin believes it's time to extend the runways at Penn State's regional airport

VB - SMU Tonight 7:00 PM

A very good 15th ranked SMU team comes to the Fitzgerald tonight. Some stats...
  • 12 - 3 record and the only team to take down Nebraska in straight sets....3 - 0
  • They have lost 25% of their sets but the margin of loss averages just 4 pts/set
  • Pitt has beaten their opponents by an average 25 - 16 final score....SMU has only been beaten by that margin in 2 sets
  • They block as well as Pitt and score almost as many aces/set as Pitt.....about 2 aces/set
  • Their service error rate is double that of our Panthers.....significant advantage to us
  • Pitt scores 19 pts/set and holds their opponents to 12 pts/set....a 7 point margin
  • SMU scores 18 pts/set and holds opponents to 13 pts/set....a slight 2 point advantage for Pitt
  • Pitt only gives back about 6 pts/set because of errors.....SMU 9 pts/set.....3 pts/set advantage to Pitt
  • Thus....Pitt enters this match with about a 5 pts/set advantage
I don't see SMU winning this match if Pitt hits on all cylinders and falls significantly outside their typical excellent performance. Having said that though....SMU has some excellent athletes.....this should be an exciting match. This is the 1st of a 5 match homestand for Pitt in October. The only away match is this Saturday at SMU.
