OT: “In Bruges”

There is a lot of buzz about “The Banshees of Inisherin” which reunites Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleason. If you haven’t seen it, try to catch their earlier film together, ‘In Bruges,’ which is excellent.

Farrell and Gleason play two hitmen whose boss, Ralph Fiennes, sends them to Bruges, a beautiful small town in Belgium, for a vacation/hit of a target whose identity he has not yet disclosed. It is a very good movie and I think the best thing Farrell had done to that point.

I initially watched it because we had been to Bruges/Brugge (the French and Dutch spellings) and it was one of the most beautiful cities we ever visited. I wanted to see how it looks on film. But, I have watched it twice more since because it is that good and quirky. Also, Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones has a small but vital role.

I believe it is streaming on Apple and Prime.

Recruiting Update Confirmed visitors for this weekend

There's a brief recruiting window this weekend to allow for midyear transfers to take visits, and Pitt's going to have some guys on campus. So far, we've confirmed three, but we expect there to be more.

UNLV WR Kyle Williams
Florida WR Daejon Reynolds
LSU RB Derrick Davis

- I've heard previously that Williams is a "heavy" Pitt lean. That was told me to at the end of the contact period in December; things might have changed, but I think they're in good shape.

- I don't know as much about Reynolds and his situation, but getting him here this weekend is obviously a good sign.

- Davis is probably the most interesting, given his background as a four-star prospect from Gateway. We've said from the start that Pitt isn't sold on him as a defensive back, but it sounds like they're coming around on him as a running back.

Also of note: quarterback transfer Phil Jurkovec will be around this weekend, which should help with Williams and Reynolds.

What's notable here is that this visit window - Jan. 4-8 - is for transfers who intend to enroll midyear. So if these guys do intend to do that, it's obviously very positive that Pitt is hosting them right now. And I expect to see more names emerge from this weekend, so we'll be keeping an eye out.

Biggest surprise transfer and incoming recruit for the upcoming season.

Okay, so it's Sunday morning after a Pitt hoops win on Saturday. College football is well....done until Junior day(s) or spring practice starts. So, while we have the time, I thought I'd throw this question out to the board. Of the incoming recruiting class and transfers, which transfer and freshman recruit do you think will be the biggest surprise this upcoming season? My picks are Zion Fowler, very strange recruiting journey, but provides a solid third option for the passing game. My surprise transfer pick is Veilleux. I'm concerned about Jurkovec's health. He got beat up pretty good during his time at BC. While I hope he makes it through whole season, I think Christian can provide quality minutes, and maybe a start, this upcoming season. What say you?

Georgia Tech Saturday

On paper we should win this one at home. However we saw how the football team did at home against Geogia Tech in a game they should have one.

It will be very interesting to see how this team comes out an plays Saturday. Coming off a stretch of games against blue bloods (UNC, Virginia, Duke) and a key game for top of the conference (Clemson). Giving up an 11 point halftime lead on the road to get blown out in the seconf half at Duke. This is the true test on Saturday to see how good this team can be. Will the team be able to regain focus, not take anyone lightly and be prepared for this game? It is these type of game that determine if we get to post season play and end up in the top third of the conference or another also ran.

I think the number of upperclassmen will help and the team stays focused. However a loss tomorrow and this quickly becomes another typical Capel squad.

Quad 4 games left

These are killers if we lose any. A Quad 4 game is a home game vs teams ranked 161 and lower and road games vs teams ranked 240 and lower

We have games left vs

@ 336 Lou
227 FSU
336 Lou
@ 227 FSU (currently Quad 3 but can drop)
225 BC
157 GT (3 spots from Quad 4)

Really really need to go 6-0 here. This is part of the problem with the ACC. You normally dont see so many bad teams in P6 conferences. The Big 12's lowest rated team is 65. 13 of the 14 B10 teams are 97 or better. 13 of the 14 SEC teams are 113 or better.

The P6 has really become more like a "Power 3." The ACC, Big East, and Pac 12 have been at a level between the Power 3 and ahead of the high majors (American, A10, MWC, WCC)

Rodney Hammond stat

I was doing some random stat finding this morning and still kind of thinking about next year's team.

There have been 7 games in Rodney Hammond's career where he has touched the ball 15 or more times. Pitt is 7-0 in those games.

2021 New Hampshire: 17 carries, 100 yards, 3 TDs. 1 catch 4 yards
2021 Duke: 16 carries 81 yards 1 TD.
2021 Virginia: 15 carries 66 yards 1 TD.
2021 Syracuse: 15 carries 50 yards. 2 catches 12 yards 1 TD
2022 West Virginia: 16 carries 74 yards 2 TDs. 2 catches 55 yards
2022 Syracuse: 28 carries 124 yards 1 TD. 1 catch 0 yards
2022 UCLA: 25 carries 93 yards 2 TD. 1 catch 8 yards

132 carries 588 rushing yards 10 TDs.
7 catches 79 yards 1 TD
Pitt 7-0

Excuses Excuses

That’s all I see on Twitter right now for why people can’t go. Pricing of seats, parking, traffic, construction, etc… is every other fan base like this? It’s pathetic.

I’m not saying you have to go or anything. People have kids, other plans, or even would rather watch at home. But please don’t cite traffic as why you aren’t coming, or a $35 ticket.

I saw a tweet where a guy was complaining that some seats are at $150-175 single game for Clemson. Buddy that’s a club seat that gets you access to the new club area inside the Pete. It’s really nice, you should check it out sometime, but it’s also perfectly ok if you don’t want to pay that because there are $35-40 seats available as well.

I have just recently graduated and am by no means flush with cash, but I did manage to pay for a $320 ic light club membership which gets me access to club seats. It’s a crazy good deal if they actually are good about posting seats on the app they have, and it was a gamble on us actually having a decent product to watch this year. Turns out we do which is nice. But I get we suck and have sucked, so there weren’t going to be thousands or even hundreds of people lining up to spend a few hundred on this team just yet. That’s fine.

The excuses are just pathetic though. And we see it for football too, especially for 2021’s Clemson game. Pitt does this to protect season ticket and basically signal to people to buy those. It’s understandable and yes there probably should be a best of both worlds situation like this one where your first priority should be getting people into the building and creating an atmosphere for a team that deserves it, while also preserving the value of being a season ticket holder (I am not a season ticket holder to save money or anything, but I know some people do like the thought of getting a good deal on a package offer. I just do it to support my school).
