OT: FSU

Conflicted with who I'm rooting for in this game. On one hand, having nationally relevant powers beyond Clemson is a good thing for the respect and viability of the ACC (at least until they get poached). On the other hand, as we all know too well, Pitt competes heavily with FSU in recruiting and from that perspective I generally like to see them fail.

Also, did anyone see the commercial for seminoleboosters.com? basically said "for more moments like this we need booster support". Not sure if that was NIL-related or for their direct athletic program donations, but I just can't see Pitt ever pushing it that hard- hope i'm wrong!

Murder Under the Friday Night Lights

Anyone else see this episode on ID Network tonight? It is about the Todd Hodne case and absolutely crushes both Penn St and Joe Paterno.

It just shows how strong the culture of secrecy is in Happy Valley that this was swept under the rug so long and not even really mentioned during the Sandusky case. Only recently with the ESPN piece on Hodne have many of the details come to light.

OT: Pirates/MLB Offseason Thread

Well the buccos finished 62-100 and should have amongst the best odds for the number 1 pick in next year’s draft. I thought this would be a good place to talk about the offseason moves for the buccos and mlb in general.

I’m actually somewhat excited about 2023. I don’t think they will be anywhere contending for a postseason spot, but getting in the 70-win range in definitely possible and we will finally start seeing some of these prospects we’ve been hearing about. It seems like there are reasons for excitement from the position players and pitching staff.

The big storyline will definitely be the potential trades of Bednar and Reynolds. The reliever market is always insane and Reynolds’ value will be sky high after the Judge shoe drops

Excited to start the discussion and see what everyone thinks

The Morning Pitt: 11/9/2022 - Which super seniors might come back?

On today's Morning Pitt, we're talking about potential super seniors - which guys could come back for an extra year of eligibility? Which guys will come back for an extra year of eligibility? And which guys would Pitt most like to have back?

By my count, there are 20 seniors who could come back for one more year:

QB Nick Patti
QB Kedon Slovis
RB Vincent Davis
RB C'Bo Flemister
WR Jared Wayne
OL Jake Kradel
OL Blake Zubovic
DE Habakkuk Baldonado
DE Chris Maloney
DE John Morgan
DT Tyler Bentley
DT Devin Danielson
DT David Green
LB SirVocea Dennis
LB Brandon George
LB Shayne Simon
CB Marquis Williams
CB AJ Woods
S Erick Hallett
S Judsdon Tallandier

Who from that list do you think would/should come back? Who do you want to have back? Check out today's Morning Pitt video for my thoughts and share yours here as well.

Recruiting Update Notre Dame TE transfer Cane Berrong

A little more info on Pitt's offer to Notre Dame TE transfer Cane Berrong today:

- Berrong went into the portal on Tuesday, so it's all still pretty fresh. Pitt recruited him out of high school, so there's some familiarity, and they were in touch shortly after he entered the portal.

- Berrong is on a short timeframe because he wants to enroll in January. He's looking at checking out a couple schools on unofficial visits this weekend: Furman and Georgia Southern.

- The NCAA has a special quiet period in early January for transfers who wish to enroll midyear. That runs Jan. 4-8, and Berrong is hoping to take an official visit to Pitt at that point.

- There are a couple weeks before things play out with Berrong, but Pitt certainly seems to have the attention of him and his family.

- Berrong has played in four games over the last two seasons at Notre Dame, with a total of 10 snaps on offense, so he's something of an unproven commodity. But he's about 6'4" 245 and caught 69 passes over his final two years of high school football, so there might be something to build on there.

Wayne & Williams NIL $

Seems they are the 2 big names left to decide for next year. I want our top corner Williams back and would spend some NIL $ on him.

But if we have to keep just 1, Wayne is a must. With the NIL $ that we seemed to be willing to spend on Izzy, Kancey, Dennis, Hill etc we need to overspend on Wayne if necessary. Having him back will have a huge impact on the season we have next year.

Any news on where we stand here?

Coach Cal

You have to wonder how much more he can endure before he says screw it.

I know he has $50 million reasons not to leave UK, but he's already made a shit-ton of money. Quality of life is important too & Big Blue Nation is going to make his life as uncomfortable as possible. He appears to be the type that kind of needs to be liked & there isn't a fanbase in America that hates their head coach more than UK fans hate Coach Cal. And now with the NIL, they should still be able to buy all the talent they depended on Cal to deliver. I wouldn't be too surprised if he pulled a Tubby Smith at the end of the season.

Article A chance for Patti to step up one more time

Every one of Nick Patti’s opportunities over the last five years at Pitt has come when he needed to step in for someone else.

And on each of those occasions, he has delivered.
