Spy on your rival: A new feature on Panther-Lair.com that you might be interested in

People have asked for this for a long time, and now it's available:

Read-only access to another team site in the Rivals network.

After years of needing another subscription to read the premium boards at the Penn State site or the WVU site, you now have the option to add read-only access to another site in the network. "Read-only" is the key term there: you won't be able to post. But if you want to know what fans at another school are talking about, here's your chance.

To start, there are five schools available as read-only options for Panther-Lair.com subscribers:

Penn State
West Virginia
Virginia Tech
North Carolina
Miami

This is a soft launch, so you'll be able to pick one of those sites as a read-only add-on. For monthly subscribers, the cost is $2/month; for annual subscribers, it's $20/year. These are the "Early Bird" prices and subject to change in the future, but that's how much it costs right now to get a peek behind the curtain at one of those other fan bases.

To take advantage of this offer, go to the Subscriptions page on your profile. And let me know if you have any issues.

Current QB Options in the Portal Potty

Much has been made about other options in the portal besides Jurkovec. Well here they are....

They Suck:

Spencer Sanders, Oklahoma State - Sucks - 60 TD’s, 40 interceptions
DJ Uiagalelei, Clemson – Surrounded by 5 Star talent and still sucked
Brennan Armstrong, Virginia - Ruined - Took a major step back this season (last in the ACC in passer rating)
Hudson Card, Texas – Unproven
Jeff Sims, Georgia Tech - Sucks - 30 TD’s, 23 interceptions
Graham Mertz, Wisconsin – Sucks - 36 TD’s, 26 interceptions
Haynes King, Texas A&M – Sucks - Played 10 games in 3 seasons – 10 TD’s, 10 Interceptions.
Connor Bazelak, Indiana – Sucks - Lost his job twice (Indiana, Missouri) 36 TD’s, 27 Interceptions

Better options than Jurkovec:

Austen Reed, Western Kentucky – Great Option – Will be in high demand – Bring your NIL money
Drew Pyne, Notre Dame – Good Option - Will be in high demand – Bring your NIL money
Devin Leary, NC State – Good Option - Will be in high demand – Bring your NIL money

If big time programs want these guys, Pitt doesn't have a chance...

All in all, I think Pitt did pretty well with landing Jurkovec for next season. Now let's get some High School QB recruits. I like the QB that committed to Cincinnati

Bowl season idea

With the new 12-team college football playoff taking all the "good bowls," thoughts on something like this to reimagine the bowl system for the 21st century:

Do one pod in Florida between Orlando, Tampa, and Miami played at smaller stadiums.

Do one pod in California between LA and San Diego also at smaller stadiums.

A team can't go to the same pod in back-to-back years.

Bring the players together in a few resort hotels and give them a ton of stuff to do. Have all bowls done before Christmas so the kids get to have a fun week in a warm weather location with fun activities where they get to meet other college players, catch up with guys they know, etc. I think (I don't know, I'm not a college football player) it's an actual reward for the players and you still get home for the holidays.

Basically, make it a college-aged Little League World Series.

Costs would be lower by centralizing them.

Fans would be more interested in going because they'd all be in warm weather locations that people like visiting. Plus, it'd be fun to see a few games kind of like how people drive around Florida or Arizona during spring training and see several MLB spring training games.

It won't make guys not sit out, but I think it would be cool.

I hate the portal and the date the portal opens, but…

I hate the portal and the date the portal opens (should be after the bowls but too late to enroll in Jan) but PORTAL DAY’22 (PD’22) has provided me a lot of entertainment as I sit in numerous different bars on the Las Vegas Strip reading my phone and watching the ticker on ESPN.

The NCAA has just created another formal recruiting date like signing days in Dec and Jan. I wonder if they knew the attention PD would bring. Nothing is by accident .

It is amazing how many starting QBs have entered the portal.

Mark Myers vs Nate Yarnell

Remember when the board stormed cardiac hill because our coaches were obviously not playing the superior athlete at QB. Mark Myers exemplifies the yinzer syndrome where the back up QB is obviously being held back. He certainly proved the yinzers correct with his stellar career. We now have the sequel in Nate Yarnell. The sequels rarely are better than the original.

Get your CFP tickets now: Its Jurkovec time

Can we cut the kid any slack? Would we really do better than him in the portal? We landed a Top 3 transfer in Slovis and he was Tino. Jurkovec was widely thought to be a Top 5 QB/1st/2nd Round draft choice this April. We saw him torch us 2 years ago. He was playing behind an OL that were down like all 5 starters. Pickett wasnt above average until Year 4 and it wasn't until Year 5 he was elite. Jurkovec has potential and simply put, we wouldn't do any better. I'm excited.
