A little early but interesting to consider....

And I can see Artis transitioning to the 2 in the NBA easier than Young at the 3. Maybe Dixon can convince him to stay if he promises to move positions for them to better prepare them for the NBA.

PG - Wilson
SG - Artis
SF - Young
PF - Luther/Manigault
C - Grad transfer/Manigault/Nix

LOL !!!!! .... good one !!!!!

Calipari says his goal is to get guys drafted, not to win championships. Is a coach's goal to help players in their future career (as is the goal of the rest of college educators) or is it to please the fans?
A coach's goal should be to win games. If he also helps to groom kids for the NBA, fine. AND he should endeavor to see that his players get an education. Obviously, if a guy churns out NBA stars, but can't win games, he'll be fired.

Is a professors goal to give A's, or to prepare students for their future jobs? What's the role of the University?

In the nicest way, I will say you are being obtuse. If you really believe academics and athletics are operating in even a remotely similar universe, you are naive. Academics are academics. Big time Athletics (big D1) are cash cows. They aren't always mutually exclusive, but in some instances, can be. I know I am right, because what the coaches and professors make are many times public information.

I don't get your analogy. Dixons job is to beat teams. No professors stated goal would be to give out A's. That's not working for me.

Big time college basketball coaches aren't professors. Aren't even particularly close to one.
I am sure every position at a university has a structured and detailed job description. I am sure the metrics on which academicians and head coaches are measured on are different. When was the last time Calipari was published in a peer reviewed journal in his field?

Further to this, not sure how my Introduction to Music professor prepared me for entering the workforce.

As successful as Calipari has been as a basketball coach, he may have missed his true calling as a marketing executive. His mission statement about getting guys drafted is pure (and brilliant) marketing.
