Another offer

Your wrong in thinking I’d rather lose scoring 80 pts vs winning with 50 .

So then you agree with me, even though you started your post with "You’re wrong once again". I mean you get why it might confuse people when you explicitly say that someone is wrong while simultaneously agreeing with what they said, don't you?

Capel obviously is great at coaching defense he has proven that without a doubt.

It's easier to coach up team defense than it is to find purely talented offensive players.

The problem is you guys made this a black and white issue. It's not that simple either way.

You have to be good enough on defense to prove you are worthy of playing offense in relativity to your team needs but most of your own skills.

I've never made it a black and white issue. I have said on this board, over and over and over, for years and years, that there are lots of different ways to win basketball games.

But if you want to win basketball games then you need to play guys who give you more than they give up. You can't have a team filled with minus players and expect to win games. Guys who get you 15 and give up 20 don't help you win. Guys who only give up 8 but get you 5 don't help you win either.

I’ll answer - no. Absolutely not.

I mean if you say it’s better to win 50-45 rather than lose 90-80 and he says you’re (or your as he often does) wrong that speaks for itself.

Why are you guys arguing over every little freaking detail... Enjoy the energy the program has , be happy. Some of you are truly miserable.
I thought the same thing. Arguing for arguments sake.

If you dolts are going to slobber over a good player that left, then at least pick the right guy. His name is Cam Johnson, not Parker Stewart.
I was actually going to post when i read this 20 minutes ago to wake me up when Cam
Johnson makes a shot under pressure, but i resisted...ha!

He was one of the best players on the court, and will be playing in the pros. Parker Stewart will be playing pick up games at the YMCA in 3 years.

I am not slobbering over Stewart; the post you seem to be triggered over was my first in this thread. I have really avoided getting into the middle of this pillow fight between Joe and the golfer and was commenting more on Souf's asinine response.

I could care less about Stewart and more so with Johnson. You want to be a fanboy for a guy who not only left but chose a program that plays against Pitt be my guest. Talk about rubbing salt in a wound. And you know the conversation centers around Stewart only because he was in play when Capel took the job.

Direct your outrage at someone else.

Lyke.

By that logic, I guess Wilson Frame on the floor also lead to going 0-19 last year. Thank goodness we are rid of him.

Dumb, really dumb.

Interesting point-
As he’s also a poor defender who can shoot -

And won a combined 4 acc games and lost 35.

So , in your zeal to argue -
You prove my point.

Or let me ask-
Do you think the team will win more or less next year without frame?

So you have proven JWF sucks, but not as much as PS?

You're relentless. LOL

Haha. Cam will definitely have a nice career. He's looked very good this year. They'll just have to keep him on the bench the final minute or two of the game. He still suffers from shrinkage and I love it.

Time will tell on Stewart. Pretty sure he'll have a good shot at landing in a higher-end, international league.

Shooting in volume probably not going to be a problem while playing for his dad at UT-Martin.

I think Parker Stewart is going to be one of those guys we see draining shots in an NCAAT game and scaring a higher seed in the coming years. Where casual fans watching in the bar are going to ask, "Who is this guy?"

I liked his game and thought he started adding a few crafty offensive moves late last season outside of just being a spot-up shooter. I don't think his defense will have to be even ACC-level mediocre to excel in the OVC. Although, Belmont and Murray State have very solid programs, so who knows if they'll ever even make the NCAAs.

Agree that the step down will help him, but the team is scary bad. I just don’t think his dad is a good enough coach to get them anywhere near the level of the top 2, maybe not even to mid-pack status.

They did seem to come on a little later in the year, but have a long road ahead of them.

Agree with the part about he was adding to his game.

We saw one year from Parker Stewart. He is a shy, quiet kid. I expect as Parker gains experience and confidence, he will become more of an all around player than what we saw his freshman year.

Having a Parker Stewart on the floor lead to going 0-19 in conference last year
Period .
End of story

He was solely responsible for 0-19? What a dumb take.

Listen, you need guys with high offensive skills that you cant teach. Then you have to be able to teach them to play defense.

You cannot teach someone that isn’t quick or ultra athletic to cover another player at the ACC level. There is only so much you can do technique wise.

Yes, you cannot teach quickness but there is more to defense than quickness. Remember, this player would be guarding the other team's least athletic guard. For example, would a Sinclair or Parker Stewart done any worse of a job on Buddy Boeheim or Elijah Hughes, 2 good players for sure but neither will "out-athletic you."

Unless you are playing UNC or Duke, even in the ACC, the other teams are going to roll out a lineup of supremely gifted athletic guards. That's what people dont understand.

He also recognizes that there's a huge need for him here to shoot 3P. He's averaging 4 3PA per game at his JUCO and JWF averaged 7.5 3PA here. I can't imagine that many schools will give him the opportunity to pull the trigger on the deep ball more than 7 times per game. In 3 years he could easily crack the top 20 3PA in ACC history.
Looks and Shoots like Syracuse Coach's Son. I don't like to mention the cheaters name ! LOL

I will stand by my statement that started all this , “ the player that Pitt will miss most from last yrs team will be /was PS”. It was never about defense not being important . It was never about Cam vs PS .
Once teams finally realized that the only way Pitt could beat you was off the dribble teams just started playing a packed in zone . This effectively eliminated Trey from the offense and made X less effective which yielded 13 straight loses . This is undeniable ! The solution wasn’t playing better D it was having enough fire power from 3 to force teams out of that zone . JWF by himself wasn’t enough . That’s why JC is out there offering 3 pt shooters , he’s understands what Pitt lacked and what they desperately need for next season to be more successful w/o JWF .
Bottom line , Pitt could’ve used PS or a PS clone this past season . If they fail to find one or have X or Trey not dramatically improve from 3 next yrs win total will not be much better .
Hope this ends the subject !

Stewart had a .383 overall shooting percentage. McGowens was .417 this past season. Sidy was .407. Frame was .409. XJ was .415.

Bird was 6-9, and athletic. Injuries and age are what slowed him up as time went on.
He wasn't unathletic; but didn't have great athleticism. Tremendous hand eye coordination and genius BB IQ. His anticipation was phenomenal and got him tons of steals. Hops were okay.

We were better with adding players interested in defending and rebounding- as those are at worst equally important.

We were historically bad with players only interested in making shots.

I think it had more to do with playing a team of light recruited talent-deficient FRESHMEN. Using last season is an extremely lazy way to try to make a point.

You can’t even understand the written word . I said that winning is what’s it’s all about . Is that too hard for you to understand . Winning never makes my skin crawl., but watching guys throw up bricks sure does .

Dude, you’ve literally said in the past that if you had a choice between pitt being a bubble team with a “boring” brand and players, you’d rather be a bad team with a fast pace and exciting players.

That says it all about you.

You guys that base a whole team’s season or career off of two or three games or two or three shots are real dolts.

You can evaluate stats anyway you want I look at once he got settled and use to college ball he shot 42.5% from 3 in ACC play . He improved!
You’d rather have Sidy , Trey , X putting one up ? Not me .
From 3
JWF 39%
X 37%
Trey 32%
Sidy 23%
