Any declaration of this team quiting are Wrong

It's simply amazing to me how different this team is against man defense than zone. I did like how we attacked more (what I saw) which was mostly in the first half.

"It's simply amazing to me"...that every team we play doesn't go zone
against us. We attack man to man defenses off the dribble, and today
X and Trey for the most part made good decisions. Now if only our
bigs could hold on to the ball.

The team played well and acted like they cared. Credit to them. NC State has better players but their coach is horrific so I wasnt totally surprised we did what we were able to. Nobody does less with more than Kevij Keatts. Well except Mark Gottfried.

I like the way we played today but home blowouts to Syr and Clem and losing at home to Wake are inexcusable. This team has many problems. Playing 1 good game in a month doesnt fix that

Why is Keatts so awful? He is 134-62 overall as a head coach.

Agree. We played better and didn't quit. You would think NCST would be
better given their talent, but I also feel they're poorly coached. Our play
was improved.but their poor play helped us. One thing they did do right is
attack our zone. Of course our own zone D helped that. The ease they
made the pass into the high post was obvious time after time. Capel
ought to show film on how they do that as a teaching tool.

Our bigs killed us today. Coulibaly does some things right but he cannot
stay on the floor for long stretches IMO. Hamilton was our best big today,
and again I feel he shouldn't have long stretches of playing time either.
Brown was missing in action today. His hands are so bad, and he
mishandled a number of entry passes, and rebounds into turnovers.
We get any kind of decent play from out bigs, and we win today IMO.
I feel we still have a long way to go, but all those posts about Capel losing
the team are wrong.

Imagine this....here I am standing up for SMF. Keats IMO is not a good
coach. Can he recruit? Obviously he can. I've sen them on tv a number
of times this year, and IMO they underachieve. Part of the reason we
played better today was a result of their poor play. They have talented
bigs, who are all far better than our bigs. They made us look silly inside at
times. Their guards match up easily with Trey and Z. I honestly thought
they'd beat us by 15 or so. We were better today, but they helped keeping
us in the lead, and ultimately making it close. I'll give Keats much of
the credit for that. Just my two cents.

Keats won a lot at uncw

because he’s a good coach
It's ok Souf, we disagree. No biggie. I feel he's a poor coach and mentioned
some reasons in an above post.

I think we have a big coming next year who doesn't have boards for hands. He might actually be able to catch and finish. That said, I will remain hopeful until I actually see it because I had hopes for Drumgoole coming into this season and we all know how it went down.

Pitt actually showed up today and played with some pride. NCSU did just enough to hang around & played 6 or 7 minutes today to pick up the W.

Thoughts on GT? I think we beat them for a clean sweep football and hoops.

Because StupidMillerFan says so based on his deep hoops knowledge and overwhelming need for attention from the Lair boards.
I wouldn’t know SMF if he walked through my door, but he does a good job of getting fellow Pantherlair men wound up. Myself, I find it entertaining.

I would equate him more to being a Jester. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Tough loss today - but love we actually competed all game .
yes, they didn't give up in this game and the virginia game but did in about 5 others recently. truly something we should commend..

sad how low we've set the bar that we actually are pleasantly surprised when the team doesn't quit on rare occasions and we only lose by 1/2 a dozen against a mediocre team.. not getting blown out by a middle of the road team gets a medal now on this board.. pathetic.

Oh whoopie, that makes me feel a whole lot better. Games are 40 minutes.

Right like not scoring for 6-7 minutes every game is not the one huge factor in us not having 2-3 more conference wins. Playing well for anything less than 40 minutes night in night out gets you 8 straight losses. Eliminate 7 minute scoring droughts every game and not miss 7 or so of your final 10 FT's and you're right there but until we play 40 minutes and have some bigs that can actually finish around the rim we are going to be bottom 4 of the conference. We played well for 35 minutes or so but hit some shots as well that kept us close but this team is in desperate need of a shooting guard who can knock down a shot when you need one and right now we have no one to do that consistently.

It’s only entertainment
Nothing serious

if you can’t find the positive in watching a game -
That’s on you
i find some positives, not giving up isn't one of them. not giving up and quitting early in second half should be expected. if you expect poor results, you'll get them..

I agree they are gassed for sure not having but 2 people maybe 3 come off the bench logs a lot of minutes but was sure hoping Murphy was going to be a guy who could knock down some big shots for us this year but just hasn't been. He's been awful after the concussion but hoping help is coming.

I don't really see how they quit against UVA. UVA played really well defensively that game and we just don't have guys right now who can hit big shots to stop those droughts.

Syracuse and Nicholls State are the only two games I felt like they just didn't show up. Clemson shot out of their mind and we couldn't get anything to fall.

they didn't quit against uva, that was my shining example of them actually playing a full game.. a rare occurrence but something that we commend on this board so for that, i give them kudos..

Ahh ok sorry I read your OP wrong.

We have 4 Truly ACC Level players (X/Trey/Toney/Champagnie) -- who are playing way too much and are out manned and out talented every game. I think Drumgoole/Coulibaly/Horton will add 3 more to our rotation next year and maybe Hugley or Collier which puts at still a young rotation but now we will have 8-9 ACC level players, barring any defections with Brown/Murphy as suitable practice players and deep bench options. Brick by Brick it is coming together.

I know every has the right to post what they want here, but at the end of the day these are 18-21 year old kids who are going to school and playing basketball and the level of expectation some people place on them seem a bit ridiculous. The only I want to see as a season ticket holder is to compete. The rest is gravy.

As Souf Oaklin said it is just entertainment to me. I want to see them win but as long as we go down fighting I am ok with it.

next year, we are bringing in 3 post players and we got coulibaly so help down low SHOULD be on the way.. i really like our two guards but i'd suspect that morale is at an all time low. i hope, i truly hope that an insurgence of any kind of post play should open up some things for X and Tray. wishful thinking? i don't think but maybe..

right now, with the fact that we have zero post presence, opposing defenses are basically playing 5 against our 4. when we finally move on from Brown and get an actual D1 basketball big man, the trickle down effect should help McGowans. i just hope this speculation on him looking elsewhere is nothing more than us being paranoid..

This is my stance and what I said in my post about this team having less fight and less heart than the 0-19 team. This team has gone down double digits early in many games this season and in many of those games, they have come back to put a small amount of "game pressure" on the other team. The 0-19 was a bit different as they kept the game close early and then got blown out in the 2nd Half. I attributed that to talent taking over. But others have said this year's team has a lot of fight and heart for battling back after getting blown out of the water from the tip-off. I disagree and expect a team getting blown out to make a run. You always see that. A team goes up 15. The other team eventually cuts it to 6. That's expected.

Collier, Horton and Hugley will contribute significantly to this team next year on both ends. Max will provide fouls, rim protection and rebounds...when needed. He will be like AKC is this year.

The first three I mentioned will relieve X, Trey, Toney and Champ. Should cut their minutes by 20% and keep them fresh and allow Capel to use the bench as influence as all good coaches do.

The on court poise thing still concerns me, however. 1 and 2 must rely on their teammates more and stop taking it upon themselves to try to win games.

Although, this season, who would you rely on? Toney, Champ. They are a sophomore and freshman. Brown????? AKC, Hamilton, Drumgoole, Murphy?? I’d probably try to do it all myself too in crunch time if I’m being honest.

They just missed shots against WV. The poise wasn’t there at the end against Ville either time. ND and Clemson shot lights out. V tech too.

I agree not bashing them by any means. I feel they are just out of gas more than anyone quitting. It's hard to play 35+ minutes every game and expect them to be making big shots on tired legs. Your point of them having only 4 truly ACC caliber players is not an exaggeration either and even then they are usually outmatched so no complaints from me on effort other than maybe the SU game where hey seemed to just not be there mentally. Things are getting better and with a few shots going down we have 2-3 more conf wins this year so the future is encouraging. This was a complete joke of a program 2 years ago so its gonna take time.

I agree with this and we had zero answer for Oscar against WVU.

Louisville is one of the best teams in the country. We should have beat Wake, but Wake made shots and we didn't is why we lost that one it was n't effort it was more execution in that one.

5 of our best players at the end of the season are freshmen and sophomores. I like that potential.

Brown drives me nuts. Murphy disappeared after BC, and neither Hamilton nor Drumgoole provide much of anything.

I have a buddy. Big hoops nut. Most of his knowledge is NBA and the NCAA tournament. He pegged capel to only bring in top 50-100 recruits and has Capel on the hot seat if we’re not a lock for the big dance next season. He’s delusional.
