You don't know until you try, once the job is open I'll bet coaches come out of the woodwork, there just might be the right guy out there,over the last 5 years Pitt has been on a downhill slide. And there is no debating that

No, my understanding is NOT from people on the staff. Not at all, in fact. Some of it is from two who worked with him previously. Another is an opinion of someone who is very connected with those who know College Hoops.

You make an excellent point about the quality of the assistants at WVU. Obviously the effectiveness of Pitt assistants has been questioned at length for years.
I believe you don't necessarily need to get a new head coach to make improvements. I think this will naturally occur overtime. Dixon lost some previous assts to head coaching positions and maybe filled them in a way he questions today.
Everhart fell into Huggins lap when Duquesne fired him. Maybe Jamie will get so lucky.
I really believe the assistant coaching situation will be resolved.

I would call this more than a cycle in fact Pitt has been own a declining trend for at least 5 years. We had some rallies in that period but we are nothing like we were prior.
Making the NCAA used to be a given, now it's an achievement.
Being in the top 5 or better in the conference was a given, now we are struggling to finish above .500.

I repeat-what did he say that is erroneous because Nordenberg and Pedersen together essentially mismanaged Pitt athletics in every way. This debate has nothing do do with academics; it's all about athletics. The embarrassing FB coaching carousel, the ludicrous and flawed coaching searches, the hiring of Pedersen not once but twice, the extension of Pedersen's contract on the eve of Nordenberg's retirement and the extension of Dixon's contract during a down cycle in Pitt BB, these are all indefensible actions which rest on Nordenberg's doorstep. The guy was a disaster for Pitt athletics! he deserves to be held accountable and if you won't, some of us will and we won't forget.
I think it more than a coincidence that JD's probelms starated when he stopped adding experienced assistants like RIce, Lombardi and Slice on his staff.

Yeah um it's been like 5 seasons now and counting, and even when Pitt was on top in the Big East they underperformed year after year in the NCAA Tournament. Jamie needs to go, like yesterday.
We are on a steady decline, Iowa has gotten better every year and it wouldn't surprise me if this year's team DOES go deep in March.
