Any Dixon defenders left?

It is widely recognized in the coaching profession that Dixon is not a good mentor and difficult to deal with. That is why we can not retain/recruit better assistants.
Yeah...those guys who left for HC jobs are proof of the validity of your statement.

Maybe Iowa has had good decades.. It's not this one, yet though.

Mccaffrey seems like a good coach. They made the dance the past two years and will make it this year.
He's need there in his 5th year and has yet to get past the first weekend.

I think RIC's point is... Don't compare a single season to a decade of work.
Which is valid'm

Did you see any of their last game? McCaffery yells/screams too much to be a good coach o_O

Thanks for explaining that.

Yea, they were great jobs- Towson, Marshall, IUP-all really big hitters- everyone's dream job.

Most assistants work their way up. Assistant (small college) if they're good enough then assistant at a major college. From there ... if they're good enough ... HC at a small college. Again, if good enough ... HC at a major college.

Go live in Russia or China-like you, they don't believe in freedom of speech. You'll be very comfortable there since you won't have to read disturbing viewpoints which conflict with your own.
You do understand that's a two way street, right?

So likewise people can speak freely on your opinions validity.

Just remember that when you all get so sensitive about rebuttals to your opinions and complaints.

Its widely recognized. Ask around.

You obviously got your understanding from people on the staff who have no choice but to be complementary.

I'm still wondering if you can share from what sources you got your information to suggest that this is widely recognized.

As I mentioned, my information to the contrary is from coaches who formerly worked with him and from someone I know well very connected with college hoops.

I do in fact also know people on the staff who are indeed complementary.

Everything he said was spot on-what's inaccurate about anything his statement? Nerdy was an incompetent boob. They should garnish the moron's pension and kick his sorry butt completely out of Oakland!
Mr. Blowhard, he was a great Chancellor. Your tunnel vision is appalling.

Crummudgeon, he did some things well and he was abysmal at others. You're the guy with the tunnel vision because you want to obfuscate his role in the pathetic performance of Pitt athletics during his tenure. Overall responsibility for management of the asset we know as Pitt athletics rested with him and he squandered that asset- you and others want to give him a pass on that- that's not the way you evaluate an executive. His extension of Pedersen's contract on the eve of his retirement tarnishes his record and you and his other lackeys want to completely pretend this never occurred. It was a $2 million dollar blunder that a junior manager shouldn't make. You don't make the Dean's list when you receive an "F" in one of your courses.

Ya but you attack people personally when they offer opinions you disagree with. That's the difference. Someone that says they don't like Jamie Dixons recruiting shouldn't have to field a barrage of attacks claiming they are drunk or stupid or whatever else you throw out there. That's my main contention with the pro Jamie Dixon crowd and specifically you

When people say stupid things,i have no problem calling them stupid.

If it bothers you, ignore me.

I'm neither Pro nor anti Dixon. I root for him because he's our coach.

Then just expect the same treatment in kind. If you want to be a target, then you will be!

And as for your closing statement , it makes as little sense as a lot of what you post.

Honestly, has anyone on this board said they like his recruiting the past few years? Now that would be an indication of drunken stupidness, or stupid drunkenness maybe.

Seems to me most of the drunk/stupid references are based on things people say during or just after games, when they might actually be drunk, so sometimes those comments might be spot on.

In any case, I freely admit that I still do have hope for the future with Jamie as the coach. I think both Manigault and Kithcart appear to more in line with Jamie's core type of recruits. And Wilson has some nice skills that just need a little refinement. I do think Jamie lost his way trying to get a different type of player, but also want to give him the chance to get things back on track, whether it's through recruiting or a staff shakeup.

Maybe that makes me stupid in some people's eyes, but I can assure you that I'm not drunk. At least as far as my boss knows!

I don't care a bit what you or others say on the internet.

And it makes perfect sense. I root for our coach while he if our coach.
When he's not, I won't pine for him or root for him elsewhere.

I was stating an opinion. I'm well aware of my options. I root for him as well, rooting isn't the issue.

First off, I like beer alot so I can relate well to drunken stupidity. However, I really like your thoughts on the current state of the program. Seems you may be thinking more lucidly than many who have posted in this thread.

I am definitely not one of those Jamie can do no wrong guys, but I also think he can get back to his roots and recruit high school players that will be here for four years and improve as they grow older. This was the formula that got our program going and hopefully with Kithcart and Manigault Jamie has something to build on. If he can do at least as well next year, we could regain much of what has been lost.

You also stated that some changes with assistants could help. I think that this area definitely needs to be addressed. Jamie himself must be very disappointed in missing on most all of the top talent he tried to land. He either needs to get better at identifying the type of kid Pitt can land or should he think we can go after higher profile kids, he must get at least one assistant who can give us a shot to get that top talent here. I would prefer to see us employ a mixture of these two strategies so that every now and again we get a special player. In the mean time, I will be very happy if we just start getting back to hard nosed kids that this program was founded on.

I don't think Jamie has forgotten how to coach! He rightfully has been ridiculed for his recruiting misses and many pinpoint his system as the reason great players, particularly shooting guards don't want to play here. I am not sure the system is at fault, but with Nix, Kithcart, and Manigault coming on board next season, I just wonder what this program might be like if we could add a legitimate 2 guard to the stable. I can always hope, because I am not ready to give up on Jamie!

The funny part is that you actually probably believe that is true.
I do-it is true. People get annoyed at me because of my views and attack me first. Look at the threads. it's all there including your throwing stones at me because you don't like my "negative" viewpoint.

The problem is, and always has been, that you consider someone "attacking" your opinions to be the same thing as someone "attacking" your person. So when someone tells you that one of your opinions is wrong you consider that a personal attack and respond as if it was, when in fact it was not.

And for the record, it is most certainly not your "negative" viewpoint that I don't like. It's your ill-informed viewpoints that I don't like. The problem, I guess, is that there are so many of your viewpoints that are the ill-informed ones that it surely must seem to someone such as yourself who cannot separate someone disagreeing with their opinion with someone disagreeing with your person that they are constantly under personal attack.

No, I do not. I can differentiate between a debate and someone calling me a negative nellie, obnoxious, dumb, not a true Pitt fan and on and on. There are a slew of posters on this board who think that they have license to get personal with anyone who criticizes Pitt, the admin. or any coach to any degree.

Come on del. You pretty much are the personification of a negative nellie. You're the guy who finds the dark lining inside of every silver cloud. The fact that you can't honestly own up to what you are is the reason why you think all attacks against your opinions are actually attacks against your person.

Good post but the thing is, many people were saying the same thing about the 3 grad transfers this season and for the most part they have all turned out to be complete busts once the cupcakes ended.

So I guess in regards to Kitchcart and Manigault - I'll believe it once I see it.

Again you are way way off. Souf for example will write "you're stupid" or "you're dumb". What would you call that Joe? You need to stop justifying personal attacks by you and your few buddies on here. It gets old and brings down the board.

Del - you seem like a smart guy and I enjoy reading most of your viewpoints. I do not find you over-the-top negative like some on here, more so spot-on realistic and honest. There are many miserable bullies on this site that contribute next to nothing other than an agenda or would be better suited living about 200 miles to the east. They'd fit in perfectly.

I am about to change your message board world for the better. Copy and paste the below into the ignore list. You're welcome in advance .

Why would you ignore the only good posters on the site? You may as well just post on Scout then and save yourself the trouble. Major majors???? If he offends you, you are really soft, like our front court.

Neither am i. And from what I know, Clark is a high level athlete and very good shooter too. I'm very interested to see how he looks. Don't forget milligan either. Lots of backcourt speed.

I agree! these kids are an improvement athletically, if they bring that attitude and effort we used to get around here, we could regain traction quickly!

it is a crime being realistic. If I was a Kentuckey fan I'd be all for the way they recruit or any other program that gets elite players. Who doesn't want to watch future NBA players ,or see your team in the final four ,but Pitt hasn't chosen that path which you fellows fail to realize. I root for Pitt witch means I have to accept their philosophy and commitment to winning. You can root for Ky ,Duke Kansas etc no one will care and you can be happy. Your constant bitching and moaning about JD ,his assistants , the players etc isn't changing a thing. I really don't see how some of you get an once of enjoyment out of what should be entertainment. I guess you enjoy being disappointed and complaining , so enjoy !
