Bill Belichick to UNC

My guess is that this is going to turn into a total shitshow, particularly if his son is the guaranteed successor.

But, it will be fun to watch. I wonder if PN can even have a glimmer of a coaching conversation with BB?

I can hardly wait for Narduzzi to match coaching wits against Belichick. Nothing like bringing a knife to a gun fight.

Well, I stand corrected. Didn't think there was any way this would happen.

I actually think it will work at first:

1) Kids are pretty naive (if you want to call it that), so I think a lot of highly-rated players are going to flock there to play for him

2) It's going to inspire donors, and apparently they have some money

3) Unlike Brown, he actually is a good coach. Talent matters way more, but he should get enough of it to be able to do something with it.

Come on. Hiring a geriatric guy who nobody in the NFL will touch isn't screwing around?

5 years ago. Yes, there is no way it could work. But, it's pro sports now. His team will be full of professional athletes. If it is true that his son will be a head coach in waiting, then that's even more motivation for him to have success. Not saying it will work out. But it could be huge for them.

This is why I say the ACC is confusing. Pitt always needs a young, energetic guy that can recruit like there's no tomorrow. But the old school programs just need to spend a lot of money or throw around clout and it will work. You know, just like bringing Mack Brown back.

Agree - that's the difference. He isn't going to go out and recruit, but you don't have to now. Has Deion stepped foot in a high school or in the home of a recruit? I highly doubt it.

Narduzzi has been outcoached by Western Michigan watching tape from years prior. Imagine what Bill will do.

Who is a better coach, Mack or Bill?

First off NC has decent talent now. MAC recruited fairly well. BB is a heck of a coach and will instill discipline and hire good coordinators. He’s going to be the CEO coach

Secondly while BB won’t hit the recruiting trail he will hire guys who are good at it. They’ll do the heaving lifting and he’ll be the closer with his Super Bowl rings, Nil Money and arm Candy

I think this may work out well. Dude has something to prove.

First off, until it's a done deal AND I see him on the sidelines next year, I'm skeptical.

But I don't think he would be on board with this unless UNC is making a huge investment in support staff and NIL and doing whatever is necessary to bring in elite high-end talent across the board.

Hoodie is going to be 73 when the 25 season kicks off. He's not going to be around Chapel Hill long regardless. Without knowing details of the contract, I'd say dude could put that pen to napkin and write out that resignation letter at any time to put his appointed successor in charge.

When Mack was hired, it was pure genius and a homerun hire. Pretty sure Larry Fedora was, too. You're probably right. A lot of genius from a sure fire P2 wannabe school that hasn't won the conference since Belichick was a special teams coach.

We'll see. It could end poorly. I can also see it working out.

🙄

Unless Belichick is bringing in Tom Brady to QB, he’s going to be the same coach as Mack Brown….What’s Belichick’s record without Tom Brady????

Get a grip…

People forget that the Patriots had some pretty good defenses and Bill knew what to do. Remember the SB with the Rams and Goff?

All I know is they wouldn’t have made the Super Bowl if it weren’t for Tom Brady.

Even then, he needed to bug the locker rooms and steal signals via unauthorized filming.

BB is the most overrated coach in NFL history….

Not worried in the least…

I don’t think there’s going to be any in between here. This is either going to be a home run or a disaster. My guess is he’ll do pretty good the first few years at least.
Only way he takes the job is because he’s bouncing and turning it over to his son

I'm curious to see how Belichick will do at UNC. However, unless he's bringing Tom Brady to play QB for him, I'm not sure this is the splash hire UNC is hoping for. I suppose monster NIL $$$ will be a difference maker and if takes a guy like Belichick to get that money, then this hire will be pretty good.

Exactly what I've been talking about when I've said that sometimes you need a coaching change just to galvanize donors and sell that hopium.

We'll be trying to draw water from stones after a few more years of Narduzzi. What a contract that was.
Very few coaching changes would spark this kind frenzy. These people think they are buying the best coach that ever walked the face of the earth.

It doesn't take a coaching change at schools that are serious about winning. Or a change in AD. ...Boosters will trip over themselves to out give rival schools when the culture is right. And that attitude has to continue through coaching changes. Pitt had the winning football culture right in Majors 1. That lasted through Sherrill, Fazio, and Gottfried.

I was hopeful Pitt football recruiting fortunes would really turn around under Wanny. Unfortunately, the recruiting in the Wannstedt era was a huge disappointment.

Syracuse rallied around Fran Brown. Indiana rallied around Cignetti. Many coaches' first full class (including Narduzzi's) is their highest rated one.

I'm not saying it's always to this extent, but the new coaching bump is hardly disputable at this point. It's a tale as old as time. Sometimes things get stale and you have to freshen them back up.

This was Belichick’s only option. Think about that….The NFL players couldn’t stand playing for him. He’s going to charm teenage kids, with the portal open every year to transfer? He’s getting a guaranteed 30 million dollars????

This has epic failure written all over it….

Cignetti is unique in that he brought so many experienced transfers with him.

When I see Syracuse, I just see another mediocre football team that somehow won 9 games as opposed to 6 or 7. And they are getting no bump in recruiting. Their average star ranking is 2.97, which is in the bottom half of the league. There's really nothing tangible that suggests they are doing anything noteworthy.

Not sure if I buy the first year coaches bump or not. It just seems too random.

If Narduzzi was a first year coach in 2024 taking over a team that went 3-9, would that be considered a new coaching bump?

He has the option of staying retired
Why the hell do folks want to work into their 70s?

If they are going to raise their NIL budget to $20 million, it's going to turn out just fine for UNC. A team with that budget isn't going to go 6-6.
Really?

USC, Oklahoma and FSU might want a word with you….Believe me, their NIL isn’t paltry. There’s no guarantees…
