WVU (will be interesting to see if they can get in if they go 6-12. They are 1-6)

Wake

Pitt's in 41 of 79 brackets. Everyone is updated now which is the reason for the drop. Huge opportunity the next few days though. 2-0 moves them up a great deal, probably in the safely in category. 2 losses means its pretty much over. 1-1 and we keep hope alive.

Shut up

Are t you saying if they lose to wake they are out? Now going 1-1 keeps them around?

Man you guys really arent very bright. Yes, if we lose to Wake, my prediction is that we wont make the NCAA Tournament. That is based on the fact that I believe we have too many built-in losses (Miami 2, @ UNC, @ VT, a WTF game or 2). If we lose to Wake, I absolutely believe we lose our next 2, to teams with much higher talent levels. And then we are done. However, if we lose to Wake and then beat Miami, while I still predict we don't make the NCAA Tournament, we can still "hope." I said "hope." I didn't say if we lose to Wake and beat Miami, we are making it. Tonight's game will go a long way in determining the season. Win it and we're right in the hunt. Lose it and you probably lose the next 2.

Stop talking

I'm putting you down for the loser of this game making the NCAAT. Somehow I think I will be right and you will be wrong.
Baring the loser winning the ACC tourney I would agree with that as well. Interesting that Duzz’s biggest win came against Wake to win ACC champ. A Capel win tonight, also against Wake, would further suggest things are changing in right direction.

Also didn’t realize how close WVU and UNC are in Net. If WVU falls from quad 1 it could allow UNC to slip in one spot behind. Likely will see-saw for a while the quad 1 record for Pitt.

Bracket Matrix Friday update

Pitt still 1st Team Out. In 47 of 84 brackets. However, 24 of the 45 who updated Friday have us in. This includes Lunardi, who I've been saying had us way too high. Despite beating Wake, he dropped us to the 2nd to last team in.

The NW win should be helping us.

Its a Q1 win so it is but we need them to start losing a bit because they are pretty safely in at the moment. Today's game is huge for us. Not a MUST, but still big. If we win it, Miami could very well finish in Q1 and if UNC does also (currently 1 spot away), we'd have 3 Q1 wins. Even Syr isnt terribly far from Q1. Need to go from 97 to 75

It’s going to be annoying seeing a Big 10 or Big 12 team with a worse record potentially in over Pitt, but I guess that’s just how it is with strength of the teams/conferences and all those other metrics. Like last year, we all have talked about Wake missing out with 23 wins but a team that got in over them, Michigan, only had 17 (and sure enough ended up making the sweet 16).

I feel like it’d be a bit exhausting at this point with all the moving pieces to be looking for other bubble teams to root against, but I guess we can start some scoreboard watching anyway. Obviously hoping Pitt can control their own destiny.

Let's see what happens in February. Hopefully, we beat Miami and go from there. We need to beat the teams we're supposed to beat and not have any bad losses, no matter who the opponent is.

I think with Pitt, we'll need to get to 21 wins total to say we have a good shot of being in the NCAAT. The ACC is relatively weaker this year and that carries some weight in selections. If we don't get in, then it's NIT time. I think all of us would have bought that ticket at the beginning of the year if someone said we'd make the NIT.

Let's enjoy the game today and support the team with some noise and attendance.

Its really disappointing that the B10 and B12 are so much better than the ACC. Imagine if 7-11 WVU gets in over 13-7 Pitt. They did beat Pitt but Pitt was supposed to be going to the best conference with the breakup of the old Big East. The ACC has been anything but that.

I definitely would have signed up for the NIT in October but I did say I thought this team (thinking Dior and Hugley would be a big part) could potentially make the NCAAT. I am just thankful that we are basically getting "March Basketball" with some of these crucial games. These are fun.....but stressful.

The Big 12 is definitely better than the ACC. I don’t think the Big 10 is.

Ultimately, we got blown out at home vs. WVU, so it is what it is.

Yea but I'd hate to see it come down to that if we are 13-7 and they are 7-11. I know the B12 is better but at some point, you shouldn't be rewarded for being that bad in your league.

Agree 100%. Big 12 is and has been the real deal. The big 10 is and has been overated. I heard how great they were last year and they got smashed in the tournament. The big 10 deserves no special treatment when compared to the ACC.

Lunardi tweet from earlier FWIW

Well there is no dropping Pitt out now. This team is in the tournament at this point with no issues at all. These two wins over both Wake and Miami have really made the Florida State loss look minor now. This was a huge win tonight and unless this team completely collapses they are heading back to the NCCA tournament.

After beating Wake Jumpin' Joe DROPPED us five spots in his seed list.

It's that kind of thing that people should remember when using him as some sort of knowledgeable source. He spends more time on this than almost anyone, and he still does really stupid stuff from bracket to bracket. Heck, earlier this year he admitted that he completely forgot about us when putting together his bracket.

In fairness
But not much
These were 2 must win games for our resume -
And we won them

Which keeps us in the Mix - it doesn’t punch out tickets

Love to see everyone on the Field of 68 After Dark podcast, presented by Rivers Casino, tonight so we can talk up the Panthers. We were the second team out of the field behind West Virginia, so it'd be nice to get some discussion going.

And no, I'm not a WVU fan. Just stating what I saw on the podcast this morning.

Lunardi is a certified idiot. I had been saying for weeks he had us too high so after beating Wake, he finally corrected his mistake and dropped us like what 8-10 spots? He is one of the worst bracketologists, which is why I like Bracket Matrix since its a mutual fund of bracketologists.

Agreed. The Big Ten isnt that great this year and actually, the SEC isnt either. I know I dog the ACC but I am not seeing a ton of difference between the ACC, B10, and SEC. I'd still rank the ACC behind those 2 but there's not that wide of a gap.
