Cali Konek scores 55 points in losing effort...

Oddly enough, she transferred to Imani because she played with the Norwin girls in the summer league this year (she lives in the Norwin school district) and she realized that she wasn't going to get to play much varsity this season so she decided to transfer. Norwin is the only AAAA girls team in the state that is still undefeated. I wonder how much better, if at all, they would have been had Konek not transferred?

Incidentally, Konek is exactly what is wrong with the PIAA transfer rules. She openly admitted in a PG article a week or two ago that the reason she transferred is that she want to play varsity ball this year and she wasn't going to play much for Norwin so she transferred to somewhere where she could play. In other words, she clearly and admittedly transferred for athletic intent. By the rules, there is no way that she should be eligible to play this season.

Does the fact she did it before she was in high school have any affect on there being no issue on the transfer

Is Imani a PIAA school?

I have watched 1 minute of her highlights and even though it was against atrocious competition, I can confidently say she would have been the best player on Norwin........and I've never seen Norwin play. I dont need to. Her handle is D1 right now and she can obviously score.

Sounds to me that its political. Somebody's daddy didnt want the freshman starting over his baby girl.

Yeah that's it SMF. It must be political, and yup, someone's dad just has to be the reason. While you're at it, how about the head coach? Surely he didn't want her either. My gosh, she mighta taken a spot from one of his starters. Your posts certainly do amaze.

Norwin's best player was first team AAAA all state last year as a junior and has already signed a letter of intent to play for Pitt next year. While the day may come that Cali Konek is a better player than Alyana Gribble that day certainly isn't today, and it certainly isn't going to come any time soon. Just a guess on my part, but if Norwin allowed Alyana Gribble to shoot the ball 36 times a game she'd average a lot more than 20 points per game too. And against a much higher level of competition.

The fact is that Norwin has at least three or four girls on the team this year who will play college basketball. I don't see why it's so hard to understand that seniors who will shortly be playing college basketball may be better than a freshman who no doubt is talented but is also less experienced. Norwin won the WPIAL and lost in the state semifinals last year. Don't you suppose that the coach at Norwin would love to win a state championship this year?

OK, so that player is better than Konek. But this girl is a high D1 recruit one day. No way, a talent like that cant start as a frosh somewhere at Norwin.

FWIW, a coach at another HS told me the reason for her transfer had everything to do with players playing over her who werent as good.

Seeing as to how she never practiced one day with the Norwin varsity I think it's safe to say that she had no idea how much she was going to play. She wanted to walk into a senior laden team that was the defending WPIAL champion (and current number one ranked AAAA team in the state) and be guaranteed a starting spot and big minutes. Imagine the audacity of that coach, expecting a freshman to actually have to earn playing time with the varsity! Unheard of!

She wasn't getting enough PT in Summer League and her dad felt she should start but the coach wasnt going to start her as an upperclass player.

I'm sorry but I feel that a FR who will play ball at the high D1 level one day is better than a SR who will play at W&J. Not everyone on Norwin is D1.

What probably should have happened is the coach and Cali's dad should have come to an understanding that Cali was going to play starter's minutes but off the bench to show respect for the senior.

I like the way the one guy rips her for being selfish and her mom comes to her defense in the comments! LOL! I can't believe these people that care so much about this stuff?
